The Vicar of Dibley: Season 1, Episode 5 Election

Comments

Season one is definitely not the strongest season. Season two and on are spectacular though as they stop focusing on her being a woman vicar and start focusing on all the eccentricities of the characters.

Charles L.

Indeed. I hope Josh enjoys the show but I won't be watching.

Right Said Brett

You're a stronger man than I Josh. Never massively liked this show as a kid and as an adult I couldn't make it through a full episode. Loads of outdated references and It's just not that funny. Enjoy the rest but I'll be skipping any more!

Oh ok, thanks bud πŸ‘

to be fair the show was made in the new labour era, when the Tory party was massively out of favour, so that would of been the sentiment of the average viewer. but yeah the Bias has been around since the 80s at least - the nature of media attracts more left wing people to study it at university, The BBC likes to pretend to be inclusive etc, but the reality is that there is as much nepotism there as any other industry - I went to a University where a lot of graduates can get into the Beeb just by name droppiong the uni they went too, and a lot of ex beeb end up going there to lecture after their careers wash up in media

Glen Ford

Let it never be said the Beebs anti-Tory bias is a new thing.

not to be a pain, but can we can a timestamp for when a show starts ( after the talk and title roll ) because sometimes i watch on my work break and only have 30 minutes and its hard to scrub to the start in mobile :)

Don't worry Josh. Some of the references are so old or specific that they go over my head anyway

Rose Cottage was covered in beautiful pink roses, Dead Ivy Cottage was covered in rotting poison ivy. Just a quaint little visual gag. (You'd think the cottage owner would just clean up rather than name the cottage after the decaying plant life around it!) Taramasalata is a Greek dip made with fish eggs. Which when mixed with chocolate may well give someone the shits! Second nun assumed the first meant "Wears out the soap", referring to vigorous scrubbing (which may or may not be in a rude place), hence her reply of "Yes it does, rather".
