Red Dwarf: Season 11 Episode 6 Can of Worms

I like Mr. Bean to be honest, didn't vote for it but I'm happy enough for it to be on the line-up as it's different to the other shows. I just have an issue with the assumption that this Patreon is for "British sitcoms", when it should be about introducing someone to comedy they're unfamiliar with.

Ben

@Austin "Josh tends to watch British shows as he appreciates the humour more.. " According to who? Josh has certainly never said the channel only does British shows. And the reason I mentioned Succession is because it shares very strong DNA with arguably the best British comedy of the last couple of decades, Peep Show. Much of the cast is British, it's written and created by a Brit and many of the episodes take place in Britain. It's truly depressing that Mr Bean is running right now while some of the best US comedy ever is ignored because it's not British(never mind UK stuff like Garth Marenghi, Spaced, etc.). Besides, it's not going to open some kind of floodgates if one american show turns up on the channel. It's still mostly a British audience here, there's always going to be that kind of skewing to the choice of shows. @ Ben - Well put. I love discovering new shows on this channel. It doesn't all have to be British shows 100% of the time. Besides which there comes a point when the barrel will start to get scraped.

Just looked into this and cant believe that in all the time I’ve watched this show I have never picked up on this- now I will never be able to hear the theme song in the same way again lol.

I tweeted Howard Goodall about it after I’d heard about it on the Ganymede and Titan website. He replied β€˜my 27 year old secret has been discovered!’

Reading this comment is the first I've ever heard about this! Annoyingly, after googling, all the news articles referencing it host a now dead YouTube link to show it off, but after a bit of searching I found a newer example : https://youtu.be/1SF7aRXC5Nk Mental!

The idea of Cat being a virgin and needing a lady cat to lose his virginity to was originally thought up for the episode Identity Within which was going to be part of series 7 but was cut because they didn’t have the budget and replaced by Duct Soup. Identity Within was made as a story board with narration by Chris Barrie (Rimmer) if you want to check it out.

He only watches British shows because it's what people suggest and it's the status quo, it shouldn't be that limited. I never watched Succession but I'd love it if some non-British shows were finally voted in, or at the very least made the polls!

Ben

Love that show πŸ‘

BigChanChan

He took the Lens cap/cover off I think

Josh tends to watch British shows as he appreciates the humour more.. might be a long time waiting for an American show but it looks ok from what I looked up

Austin Stratton

I didn't get the joke with Listers headcam.. what did he do to fix it?

Austin Stratton

I love the idea of Cat having a harem onboard all along, who never left his bed. That would've been great you're right Josh. Also, I've been trying to get the ball rolling in the polls with a particular show even thought it's a long shot: Succession. It's one of the funniest shows of the last decade, it's riveting, and it's bloody brilliant. It shares DNA with Peep Show since it's written and created by one of the co-creators, and it shares a lot of the snark and cringe of that show. Sure, it's slightly more of a black comedy than a full on comedy but it's more than worth bending the rules for it. It's the best thing on TV at the moment by a country mile and will be regarded as one of the all-time greats in a few years.

Saul

This is the first episode I found out that there’s a vocoded voice singing β€˜Red Dwarf’ over the opening music. And I’ve been watching since 1989.

Philip

Hey Josh, as you have several polls coming up soon, will you please put plebs on there, I think it's a strong choice to fill a 30 minute slot ☺️
