Not withstanding his awful actions that resulted in the death of Vic Morrow and two child actors on the Twilight Zone movie, John Landis was on fire with his first few movies. Animal House, The Blues Brothers, American Werewolf in London and Trading Places are all brilliant and among my favourite films of all time. Hoping you get to react to Blues Brothers soon Josh... and I really recommend you add Animal House on to the poll if you can.

Totally agree Pkirby422. There's so many movies that date back to the 30's, 40's onwards that are my favourites. I think FatSam25 is seriously missing out on some great stuff. No shade here either, I just love movies and love sharing appreciation for them.

Jay

An awesome film.

Ferris Booyaa

One of my favourite films, I watch it every Christmas. Glad you liked it Josh, I really enjoyed watching it along with you.

PunchyPariah

Reminded me of the Coming to America cameo from the Duke Brothers , the music and the Twin Towers in the background nod https://youtu.be/h0GLVc4f02k

You're limiting yourself dude, I promise you. A good number of my favourite films were made decades before I was born. Not meaning to cast any shade though... To each their own :)

Pkirby422

Cheers Josh, it must be 30+ years since I saw that. It's one I watched a lot though, so I remembered just about every scene. Have you seen 48 Hrs and Beverly Hills Cop?

Keith Pratt

It’s to old for me but I hope you enjoy it

Another fun fact: During the bathroom scene Don Ameche (Mortimer) initially refused to say the N-bomb…it took a lot of convincing from both director John Landis and Eddie Murphy before he finally caved in. Also the pawnbroker who buys Winthorpe’s watch is none other than rock n roll legend Bo Diddley! Which reminds me….really hope The Blues Brothers wins a poll soon - it’s a unique film and being a life long music fan it’s always great to see legendary singers and musicians performing alongside funny people like Dan Aykroyd & John Belushi. Plus it’s made by exactly the same team that made this film, Coming To America, American Werewolf, MJ’s Thriller video etc.

Ben Marshall

A couple of facts: Coming to America is set in the same universe as this film, The Duke brothers are also in that film, next time you watch it look out for them, the two homeless guys Akeem gives money to, "Mortimer, We're back!". Both this and Brewster's Millions were written with Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder in mind, they both rejected the script for this and Wilder rejected Brewster's Millions, presumably as there wasn't a whole lot for him to do. You should add Brewster's millions to the poll Josh. It has the same writers, but while it has it's moments it's not as good.

Danny

Such a classic film. Fun fact: when Rob Grant and Doug Naylor were working on the first draft of the Red Dwarf pilot in the mid-1980s, they originally imagined Rimmer as a British version of Dan Aykroyd's character in this movie. It's also a great touch that the opening credit montage of the contrasting walks of life in Philadelphia is set to Mozart's overture from The Marriage of Figaro, which is itself a tale about a streetwise poor man who gets embroiled in a wealthy nobleman's scheme and has to turn the tables on him, coming to question their respective places in the world along the way. ("Count Almaviva! How came you to be the rich and mighty Count Almaviva? Why, in truth you did nothing but be born, while the obscurity into which I was cast demanded more abilities to gain a mere subsistence than are requisite to govern empires.")

Ian Richards

Jamie Lee, that woman left a a positive impression on me, when I watched this as a kid 😊

Gareth Hood

Yea that is true I bet they cut all that out here too.

I was surprised it hasn't won yet. I'll continue to add it to the polls bud.

The guy in the gorilla suit initially, was Jim Belushi, whos brother John Belushi starred alongside Dan Aykroyd in Blues Brothers. Hope that wins a poll, it keeps doing well but just misses out. Jim Belushi, is known for films like K-9 and Red Heat

Danny

Was fun seeing this again, been near 10 years since seeing it. Couldn't remember the slurs in it, but probably because they usually cut out that sorta stuff on TV, so I probably hadn't seen it uncut
