Comments

ooh i love that show... I would love to see josh watch that

Austin Stratton

The set up for the joke is funny in itself. That's great writing

Gareth Jones

I read the whole article and the comment at the bottom, I think we're good.

Keith Pratt

Goodnight Sweetheart. I won't say too much more in case Josh ever reacts to it... but it's the sitcom that immediately comes to mind here.

Ash Jeffries

Are you sure about that? I think it's more complicated than that... http://www.dirtyfeed.org/2015/10/one-foot-in-the-grave-hearts-of-darkness/

With regards your thoughts at the beginning Josh and would they have a character having an affair, I think it would be more acceptable in Btitish sitcoms than American ones. I think British audiences are more accepting of peoples flaws than across the pond so wouldn't have the same kind of turn off effect, people who are not perfect are more relatable.

@bella yeah lights was flickering a lot was really expecting to loose power hope ur power gets sorted soon I know if u call the power grid phone line and notify them they tend to fix it faster and thanks josh 😁

Edward Wilkinson

girlsdrinkfeck

i think that young woman was in bottom who played the princess of bulgaria or something ? the one richie was gonna shag

girlsdrinkfeck

It really is! So many cracking episodes of this show but next week's is the cream of the very fine crop! Doesn't get better than that! :-D

Ash Jeffries

Yeah, just finished it, all scenes intact.

Keith Pratt

Ah, should be fine then. It's cut on iPlayer which is currently my only reference.

Jim

David Renwick does David Lynch next week. Tremendous!

Colin Bayley

That was only on TV, I think. On IMDb, it says, "The cuts have since been restored, along with them being available in the box sets." I'm watching it on BritBox now and the running time is 29:14.

Keith Pratt

Josh - the next episode has been cut since broadcast. It's only a few seconds but it's quite notable. Is anyone out there able to provide a full uncut copy for Josh to watch? I think the DVD might be uncut?

Jim

πŸ˜… We know you memorised it.

BelladonnicHazeyJaneII

Glad you've still got power! It hasn't been too bad by me, thankfully. Stay happy safe and healthy ;-)

A small, bleak joke you may have missed, Josh: when Mrs Warboys asks Andrea whether her parents are still close, she answers: "fairly close; Holloway and Pentonville." Those are both prisons in London; Holloway for women (closed since 2016), Pentonville for men. Another Edgar Allan Poe reference in the episode title, and I feel like the close-up of the garbage disposal which opens the first scene is a nod to something from a film, though all I can think of at the minute is the standard "spinning newpaper" visual from movies like Citizen Kane. (I know the Poe story is about a whirlpool at sea, and the garbage disposal shot works as a reference to that, but I just wonder if there's an extra layer to how it appears on screen.)

Ian Richards

Next week's is an absolute masterpiece! Renwick's finest (half) hour!

Rob Walters

Great reaction Josh! Series 4 is just superb throughout and this episode is no exception. From the waste disposal unit jokes, to the gorilla suits, to Margaret's trying to convalesce amid Victor's perpetual noise and temper, to the young woman and the twist about her having abducted the baby and Victor taking the blame for the pearl earrings.... and much much more just in this episode.... it's actual OFITG gold, and given that it's my favourite UK sitcom of all time, just pure gold all told for me. Renwick really does explore Victor's good heart as the series goes on. He may shout and holler and be seriously lacking in patience; he may forget his manners and let his mouth get ten paces ahead of his brain.....but he's actually a very decent man. We saw it at the end of series 3 with the way he took down the two odious snobs after witnessing the disabled man looking after himself. And this is the thing - when he just *calms down* and steps back he has real empathy and a strong moral compass. He's just a ball of angst and bad luck is all. The final joke is a good one and a very sweet one - the dad looking so much like a gnome, which explained the earlier joke too. It's what I love about this show among many other things - such detailed and thoughtful writing. It's a traditional sitcom in many ways with quite clear jokes and tangible punchlines but as with OFAH, the characters are fleshed out wonderfully, and the show really does pull back and explore their human side as real *people* and not just characters saying funny things. That Renwick manages to squeeze a very clever plot into the mix (arguably the driving force for most episodes) is just remarkable. There's no corner-cutting with OFITG - Renwick gives us everything. Superb. I may have mentioned it a couple of hundred times but next week's episode is my favourite ever. It's just simply brilliant and I can't wait for you to see it, Josh! :-D

Ash Jeffries

Oh, I’ve just checked what the next episode is. That’s certainly one I remember very clearly.

Graeme D

"I'M GOING BACK TO WORK FOR A BLOODY REST!"

Jack Nicholas

Andrea was played by Helen Lederer. You've seen her twice before in Bottom. In S01E04 she played a nurse and in S02E01 she played Lady Natasha Letitia Sarah Jane Wellesley Obstromsky Ponsonsky Smythe Smythe Smythe Smythe Oblomov Boblomov Dob, 3rd Viscomptress of Moldavia. No, I hadn't memorised that name, I copied and pasted it from IMDb!

Keith Pratt

It's Mr Swainey doing archery always makes me giggle. "Mother will you please sit back in that chair or I'll have your hairnet off again" πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Claire Prowse

Another enjoyable well written episode had me laughing. Sometimes I feel I'm getting a bonus Josh with what you say in the review and reaction has me chuckling lol and as mentioned by Luke we are having it pretty rough with the storm across the UK so it was nice to be able to watch this. Nice to know all the main cast are still with us.

Andrew G

I'm so happy I can see this after the mega storm though I'd have a power outage and had to watch next week hope the patreon crew is safe too
