PHIBES Was directed by the late great Robert Fuest. Mainly a tv director on shows such as The Avengers. It was so popular they made a sequel with the bizarre madcap ways he assassinated people always good for a belly laugh.

Awesome bud I am glad to hear it!

Oh Wow that film terrified me as a child!!! I wouldn't sleep in the top bunk for ages incase someone drilled a hole in the ceiling and poured cabbage juice in my face!!! Such a great camp horror!!

In recent weeks I've been reading the OFITG novelisation David Renwick wrote as a tie-in for the show in the early Nineties; as you'd expect, most of it is rehashed from the TV version, but you do get some extra stuff in the prose that makes it all worthwhile. The introductory description of Mr Swainey is fantastic: "Less a man and more a dawn chorus, he strode past into Victor's hall in a pair of tartan carpet slippers and a ribbed jersey the colour of nothing on earth. His face glowed with pockets of enthusiasm like a chestnut brazier and one could imagine that he had, in his bedroom, several large canisters of glee with which he rubbed his hands every morning. You could take your pick as far as age was concerned, for he had both the weathered stoop of advanced senility and the gurgling inanity of babyhood." The mystery of what happened to old Mr Gittings, the man who used to live in the Meldrews' current house (who met an untimely and nasty demise that Mr Swainey refused to elaborate on in Series 2 Episode 1) is also solved in the book: "It appeared that the previous occupant of number 19 Riverbank - one Norman Frederick Gittings, aged seventy-four - had one day completely taken leave of his senses while emptying the pedal bin, and become convinced that his wife was a cucumber. A few days later the horrific remains of what he presumably took to be a light green salad had been discovered in his bathroom, together with the body of Mr Gittings himself who, being of a rather timid and squeamish disposition, was deemed to have died of acute shock."

I was just about to say this too, then I saw your comment hahaa!

Hilda Braid was the name of the actress. I checked her filmography and she wasn't in any Harry Potters. She's been in a lot of things, but I know her best for playing Wolfie Smith's girlfriend's mum in Citizen Smith which was written by John Sullivan.

Keith Pratt

There's another movie you should see. The Abominable Dr Phibes. A comedy horror movie starring Vincent Price and made in Britain (1971?). Though I think few will remember it now. Mentioned by Margaret this episode.

Anyone recognise the voice of the burglar? It was John Challis, AKA Boycie from Only Fools! Don't check IMDb, it's wrong! Get it straight from the horse's mouth: https://twitter.com/onefootinthepod/status/1284163437170438144?lang=en

Loving this all over again as it’s been so long since originally seeing it. Great sharing it with this community
