the first-ever Service Dog Handler Symposium, happening online
June 19–22, 2025!
This four-day event brings together an international lineup of
trainers, behavior consultants, and SD handlers (including me!)
for conversations that matter. From emotional wellbeing to dog welfare, hard decisions to practical training tips—it’s all on the table. This is the first event of it’s kind, coordinated by Service Dog Handlers for Service Dog Handlers.
Here's what to expect:
Three short pre-recorded presentations each day
Live Zoom panel discussions with experienced voices from the field
Bonus chats, handler stories & mini-lessons
I'm excited to share my talk:
🎤 "Bonding Outside of SD Training - The Story of Azul" – In this presentation I will be discussing some of the new skills I learned while training Azul & how his health has forced an early retirement for service dog work. Azul always loved to work, but required more functional reinforcement instead of food reinforcement. This taught me so much about creating delayed reinforcement and jackpot reinforcement. Dealing with Azul's health issues that began at roughly 3.5 yrs old has been an emotional rollercoaster of physical and emotional issues for our team. I've never really told the whole story before, so join us to be the first to learn how challenging this journey has been.
