This was a decent episode it made me think about how important it is to be confident in your abilities but keep yourself humble. Too much confidence can impede your willingness to learn from others and grow. You need that nagging voice that says you are not ready yet to push you to get better. But too much of that voice will keep you from taking a chance and you end up stuck in place , full of regret. So the balance of both halves is important because together they help prevent self-destructive behavior. At least I think that's the message of this episode lol.

Thanks for watching folks !!! Hopefully, you all are happy, safe, and healthy !!

As always I would love to read your comments below

Red Dwarf: Season 1, Episode 5 Confidence and Paranoia

I quite like it too but I think it would have been painful watching Josh react to it, especially first off the bat

Kieran B

I honestly don’t know why people dislike season 1 of Blackadder so much 😂 personally I like it a lot, it’s worth the watch for Brian Blessed alone.

Christopher John Williams

Thank you! I thought we needed a bit of an upgrade. Take care!

I love the purple lighting in the background of your videos Josh, it gives it an extra nice cosy feel. It suits your room.

The actors for Lister and Rimmer legitimately hated each other during season 1 filming and I think it shows, both in the good ways (plays up their differences as characters) but also in the bad ways (less comedic chemistry). Thankfully they became really good friends (as actors) and the show gets better for it.

Jason

It's hard to say so soon. But if I had to choose I would say Lister based on his actions. Willing to go into stasis instead of turning in his pet cat. He just wants a humble life with a girl he doesn't have any delusions of grandeur. He found out he is "God" and didn't want that kind of power and influence. Even though he didn't want to be "God" he decided to use it to comfort an old dying cat who lost faith. Don't get me wrong Rimmer is a good character to laugh at and he does seem to follow protocol especially when it comes to Safety. Lister would probably be dead if Rimmer wasn't around.

I have never understood the hate for season 1, it is no where near as bad a black adder season 1 and definitely needs to be watched! Glad you are sticking with it :D

Martyn

LOL That is awesome! I think we all have a thing we like or have done that we think is cringe lol.

I agree man this first season is good so far I am enjoying it =]

After Work Reactions

Thanks bud I will keep that in mind! I was thinking about doing something for Christmas.

Red Dwarf is the best! I get it's a slow burner at first but somewhere along the way it just clicks. I think for me it was when series 10 aired. Not sure why, might of been the hiatus, but when the theme tune kicked in I felt like one of the 👋boys from the dwarf👋 Who's your favourite character so far Josh?

Alex

Awesome bud thanks for the info =]

After Work Reactions

That's exactly it...I've seen the better seasons and now this first one seems so lame in comparison. I'ts not bad....just not what i got used to.

Hannah

If Paranoia seemed familiar, it's because he was also Dick Head the barman from Bottom :)

David Lyons

Good reaction Josh. This is an even slower series than I remember but I still have a fondness and nostalgia for these early episodes. They are lacking in some respects but the budget was minuscule, and I feel they were a bit limited as a result It's a bit static and claustrophobic. I do like the message this episode sends out and the slightly dark way they go about sending it. And you do get to grips with what makes these characters tick which will pay dividends when the show improves in series 2 and really moves up a gear into true familiar Red Dwarf excellence from series 3-6. It pays off and is worth the wait!

Ash Jeffries

ok but on your post you said I feel sorry for you Josh having to watch this junk, but what makes you think that josh has the same opinion as you? you just said people have different opinions.

martyn dodds

Yes it's dated now but when this came out it was so original. I even had a red dwarf t-shirt (cringworthy😳). And I read all the books. It's not 'laugh out loud' now but I have a lot of affection for series 1&2 it certainly better than a lot of the sterilised guff on tv nowadays!

Claire Prowse

haha i remember when cat was a vampire and rimmer's H stands for hero lol

martyn dodds

absolutely

martyn dodds

One funny little thing about the first series for me is on the opening title... see if you can spot the frisbee. Once you see it you can never unsee it :)

Phil Spicer

Don’t listen to the people saying skip series 1 & 2, it’s not just needed for context but there are great episodes, series 2 is great. Stick with it loving the reactions

james

And people have different opinions to you and they're free to express them, I don't understand why people have to post opinions on other peoples opinions about tv shows they don't appreciate !. Anyone can give there opinion here good or bad, ignore it or don't.

NEXUS

Glad you didn't skip this season. You'd have missed out on the setup and the first episode and Future Echos alone are worth it. For me, anyway.

Mr K

I agree, its at best an ok show, how it won the poll I've no idea

Paul Lightfoot

I disagree on missing out on this series, it adds context to the show. Where as Blackadders first series had no connection to the rest of the show in any way. Don't forget Josh thought Cat was a Vampire when he first saw him...

Adam C Turek

Not sure what your movie schedule is like,or whether you are doing a Christmas movie reaction, but in case you are looking for something Christmassy to watch,I would like to recommend *Click & Collect* 2018 It is a short tv movie of 53 minutes staring Stephen Merchant ,it is brilliant, fun and perfect Christmas caper

Andrew

I feel sorry for you Josh having to watch this junk, especially the earlier series. They're not remotely funny on any level, to me anyway . Good luck enduring them all.

NEXUS

Craig Ferguson played Confidence, he was the host of the Late Late Show before it was taken over by the gelatinous comedy vacuum James Corden. This was during his alcohol addiction and he has no memory whatsoever of doing this. He was a revolutionary as a chat show host though, actually talked to the guests about their lives, no scripts just having charisma and being charming.
