First I loved all of the action scenes in this movie. I said this before in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz the action scenes are on point. These are comedy movies and yet they take the time to make sure the action scenes on par with any other action flick. When he knocked the head off that kid and it revealed the kid was an android that was fantastic. I was caught completely off guard I assumed it was a movie about your standard run of the mill apocalypse, meteor, natural disaster, nuclear bomb, etc. Simon Peg did such a great job capturing the guy who stays in the past. I have uncles who are that way, all they talk about is how cool they were in high school. My pops and uncle always talk about how they use to beat up the Jackson 5. Like dude why are you bragging about that they are millionaires now lol? I think they are making it up just because you went to school with famous people doesn't mean you actually had any real interaction with them. This movie was fun, full of action, a good laugh, and overall great pacing and vibe. The only thing I had to get used to was Nick Frost not being the screw up comic relief. Other than that I thought the movie was great.
Thanks for watching folks !!! Hopefully, you all are happy, safe, and healthy !!

That was so much better than I remembered. I'm around the age of the characters now, maybe I can just appreciate it more?
I'd recommend a film called FAQ About Time Travel, if you haven't seen it. From what I've seen of your tastes, I think you'd enjoy it.

I did enjoy it, not as much as the others but it was still good. I will for sure give it a rewatch at somepoint. I agree about the ending, it was a bit of a cop out and not nearly as good as the others.

This was always my least favourite of the three. But the more i've watched it the more I like it. And watching it again now I genuinely enjoyed it a lot. I previously thought the ending was a bit of a cop out. I didn't like the idea that the defense for humanity was basically that we like to get messed up and don't want anyone telling us what to do even if it might make things better. But to be fair while the aliens leave the world DOES go to sh't and we DO have to face the consequences of our actions. And while Gary still gets to end the film as the badass he clearly wants to be, he DOES end the film as an ex alcoholic travelling around demanding equality for the blanks who've now started to be treated like second class citizens. That's pretty awesome. It's a philosophically nuanced ending for a hollywood film that honestly just gets better and better every time I watch it.

I'm surprised people said you wouldn't like it - i think the majority enjoy this film but don't rate it higher than previous two, bit like Back to the Future 3 which is ok but no ones favorite. also notice that like hot fuzz hada former James Bond, so did this one playing the teacher

thing about this film - bit of a spoiler - is that this movie was somewhat personal for Simon Pegg, since he has had some problems with alcohol himself in the past

Second link worked fine for me, I’m not a huge fan of this one it’s was pretty funny tho, I prefer Paul to this. I thought of a couple of movies you probably wouldn’t have seen to react to ‘Kevin and Perry go large’ and ‘Ali g in da house’ you have reacted to both characters in short clips before, both would be hilarious bro

Not the funniest of the trilogy, but definitely the best written.

Aren't the 'Aliens' just a metaphor for (so-called) ''Social Media''? Easy to kill. You just need to fight back by hitting the 'OFF' button and nobody actually gets hurt, unless they were already very weak, and old romances can blossom again. And although it looks bleak at the other end, like 'the dark ages', we were happier back then. Just my take away.

I think it's the funniest of the three. The dialogue in particular is better than the other two - the fuck-you-aliens speech at the end kills me. I admit it does liven up as soon as Nick Frost gets drunk though. His barstools for boxing gloves fighting technique, smashing his hand through a glass door, etc..

...So this is(marginally) my favourite of the trilogy. I liked Shaun of the Dead, found Hot Fuzz baggy and unfunny and very much liked this one. It was the funniest of the three by a hair from Shaun. It definitely had the sharpest dialogue; there were some very funny interchanges. Simon Pegg's character is brilliantly tragic and there are moments in it that genuinely moved me, while there weren't any of those in the other two films. Like all three films it's flawed: the aliens are too weak, the plot drags, the motivations are often mental - it's a bit of a mess, whereas Shaun of the Dead is a much tighter, simpler film. But I just found it funnier than Shaun of the Dead so I prefer it. I was quite excited for Hot Fuzz but it really didn't click with me at all.

This got very good reviews when it came out; other commenters may not have liked it but critics did not consider it at all weak.and it's the funniest of the three films for me. I also find the speech at the end from Gary when he's talking about how it 'never got better for me than that', where he breaks down...that's easily the most genuine, affecting moment in any of the three films.

I dont know if anyone has explained the concept of the Cornetto Trilogy to you as you weren't expecting Aliens in the film. It's also sometimes called The Three Flavours of Cornetto Trilogy.
In Shaun of the Dead they eat a Strawberry Cornetto - Red for Zombies.
In Hot Fuzz they eat a Vanilla Cornetto (which has blue packaging) - Blue for the police sirens.
In Worlds End they see a Mint Cornetto at the end - Green for Aliens.
That was the generic concept they had for the 3 themes of the films representing the three flavours of cornettos.

This is the only one of the Cornetto trilogy that I never watched again (have seen the others loads). I remember kind of liking it when I saw it at the cinema but was underwhelmed at the time. Enjoyed it a lot more this time, had literally forgotten everything about it so was taken by surprise by the sudden twist just as much as I probably was the first time around.
Not as funny as the other two imo but doesn't necessarily need to be as it made it up in other areas. I love the original Dawn of the Dead, so SoTD will always be my favourite though. :)

I think the reason a lot of people see this as the weakest in the trilogy is because there was such a long wait after Hot Fuzz, by the time it came out people had already connected SOTD and Hot Fuzz so much that this seems a little separate. Also the fact that the dynamic of Pegg being the more sensible character to Frost's comic relief being switched, adds to this one being a little removed from the first two. Having said that I think it's a great film, and I actually think it's more enjoyable on repeated viewings. I think people who watch this trilogy nowadays in quick succession won't necessarily see this as the weak link, because they didn't have to wait so long for it. I could be wrong though!
Thanks for reacting to this Josh, one of my all time favourite series of movies! Sorry to hear about all the trouble you've been having with the account being terminated, best of luck getting back on track, there's no rush with it anyway.

I get what you mean about the blanks, but the point is not just threat of them for me, but the obvious issue that gets fully show with Gary and his alcoholism. Also, incase you didnt notice (not read spoiler reviews of the movies yet) the movie series is cornetto trilogy (which I know you know) but each ones based on colour of the movie. Red for the blood from zombies, blue because police are seen as blue, and green because we see it as "little green men". cornetto have other colours, not sure what they would be, but I wouldn't complain about a 4th movie

I think this film is somewhat underrated in fairness. I really enjoy it and it has ample rewatch value.
I'd concede that Shaun of the Dead is the strongest of the Cornetto trilogy but it's not uncommon for the first film in a series to be the best one and Shaun is a high benchmark. That said, Hot Fuzz and The World's End are both great films in their own right and for different reasons.
Sandford, Gloucestershire is fictional but I've grown up in Gloucestershire from the age of less than 1 year (now 37) and Sandford is a local name that you see used in various ways here so it was a cool nod to that. Simon Pegg was born in Gloucester (I live in neighbouring Cheltenham, only 8 miles over), and there's a real familiarity to the filming locations and some of the jokes about the Cotswolds etc. I love the fish-out-of-water and buddy cop film satirical elements in Hot Fuzz too. It's a fantastic follow up to Shaun.
I think The World's End does take more of a sudden turn tonally (one which took me as much by surprise as you! :-D) and this is to its merit as I think it really does pull it off well. Whilst all three films address this notion of us vs. them and questioning one's identity, I think The World's End is a slight departure, particularly for Pegg, who has spoken of his own demons with the drink in the past and that this film is semi-autobiographical and cathartic for him as a result. I'm guessing it's only the relationship with alcohol that he drew upon and that he didn't go through an ordeal with some rather persistent androids... :-P
Great reaction video as ever, Josh! Thanks for sharing! :-)

Firstly for context, antiques road show is a show in England referring to the Kings joke. we have many, many antique shows. Also, what I like about this movie is they purposefully have it turned on its head, Pegg being the irresponsible one and Frost being the sensible one. Also love the lil easter eggs and foreshadowing they put in these movies, always new stuff to spot. Legit think this is the first time I clacked all the surnames are their roles. King, knight, prince etc. wish there would be another in the future, there are more cornetto flavours to choose from lol

So, just some feedback Josh. I've had a bottle of Cava, so I'm probably going to be a little wordy.
Really enjoyed the movie with your reaction. Probably more than originally watching it because that was just alone on a PC screen.
On the google drive link I could only get 350p and I just won't bother with that kind of quality, so I sync'd it with Amazon Prime and just used the audio from your vid. It's a bit of a fiddle but it worked just fine, except when I need to pause for bathroom but I'm happy to do that.
However, if there were the possibility of having one sans audio, so your reaction is basically on but not as precise, I'd be happy. Either way, good luck with it because it sounds like a logistical nightmare.

This movie while not as funny as the other two is so fantastic because of its emotional punch.
The reveal that Gary is essentially on a suicide mission after trying to kill himself is just so sad. He never grew up like the rest of the group. And desperately tried to recapture something that didnt exist anymore.

Glad you reacted to it as this is one of favourites :)
Also, most of this was filmed in my home town. I've been to all of the "pubs" used in the film (in fact a couple are my local). The nightclub they visited is actually a cinema and I watched this film in that cinema (a memorable experience). Even had a personalised intro from Simon Pegg.
They're working on a new TV series at the moment which is also filmed in my town :D

The Worlds End is a pub in Camden (area of London) where Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright would regularly drink before they found success. They named the film after their favourite pub.
