"Red did What to you.?." Seral trying to deepen his voice "He bit my balls off!!!! The barstard" Sounds of sniggering from the rest of the pack.

Marcwolf

Red may be crippled.. But he has teeth, claws, and a brain. I also wonder what he has hidden in the grass next to him. Its unlike him to be so unprepared... knowing that he is being hunted.

Marcwolf

Wolves have to be quicker on the comeback since they don't shower ;)

Rebecca Mazur

I love how quickly Red squashed Seral's argument using his own metaphor. Most people can't think of comebacks that pithy until they take a shower the next day

Gale Tazzin

Nailed it. :]

Gristle talks about it waaaay back on pg 238-- https://www.patreon.com/posts/orens-forge-pg-70710363 He could still hunt with one eye and retained 'value' in the pack, where-as Red is lamed and can't hunt (in my mind, Red's got torn Achilles and maybe a badly broken/healed hip.) Also sorry for all the edits-- the return key being 'send' is killing me.

In this world, only the mammals are anthro/sapient!

Teagan Gavet

Seral's uncle got maimed/blinded by a rabbit and he's still kicking...

Amethysmus

i've a feeling that seral's father was injured similarly to red and was left behind to die when seral was a teen (and therefore unable to do anything about it). beyond just being raised in an ableist society, it would explain the complete mental disconnect he's showing here--because acknowledging the fact that red is alive despite his disabilities would mean acknowledging that his father could have been saved too. the guilt that would come with that realization, plus the way it would completely reconfigure his perception of gristle and the pack, is too much to bear, so seral neatly rationalizes what happened and follows said rationalization to its natural conclusion. of course, i could be totally off base, and obviously this doesn't excuse seral's actions at all in this circumstance, but that's the read i'm getting from it and its very interesting to me.

cactus bastrop

Got a question about the anthropomorphizing of the critters! Are there anthro birds too? If not, is there a reason they stayed feral? I know the wolves use ravens to hunt, but wasn't sure if there were feral and anthro birds.

TropiCat212

Ooh Red be dissing hard! Hoping Red lives long enough to see 'society'

Felidae

Red knows what being part of a pack really means.

NightEyes DaySpring

Good job with stalling Seral, Red. I wish there was some way out for him out of this situation but the odds are against him I'm afraid.

Pantera

Man I really hate this guy. I sincerely hope Red maims him and the new pack rejects him for it.

Grey

Its so twisted and wrong at its core (i mean how do you tell someone they are dead right in front of them?), but at the same time still so gray... Seral was raised with a very specific set of thoughts about what living means, and he shows his hypocrasy when he says he /loved/ Red but is choosing to feel he is dead to him when he is talking to him right now to his face. it's fascinating to see him explain himself, and even more satisfying to watch him be called out with the same language that he keeps using to justify his own actions.... I know he was sent to kill him but so far we haven't seen if he actually has the fortitude to kill a packmate as he claims to- he hasn't been given the opportunity. I hope he either storms off in a rage because Red is right or they fight and Red gets a lucky shot and can use the strength he has before Seral can take advantage of his bad leg.

Givemeyourmilk

Oof my heart is racing again, Seral “good” Memories of Red will most likely be tainted by what’s about to happen

Dhaka Yeena

Well, so much for Seral maybe seeing sense.
