Thumbnails + Page 247 Panel WIPs
Added 2022-11-11 18:00:08 +0000 UTCHere are the thumbnail sketches for pages 245 - 247.

The thumbnails are the very ‘first’ art step, aside from a handful of messy margin sketches that are more gestures than anything, to help me ‘feel’ out a scene. (I have another WIP/thumbnail breakdown coming later this month where I’ll include some margin sketches.)
Here’s a quick breakdown of the last panel on page 247
First rough sketch after stretching the thumbnail onto the full-sized canvas:

Final Sketch Overtop the Thumbnail:

Something I don’t think I’ve specifically mentioned before, but I tend to “overdraw” characters in panels, then scale them or crop them as best fits the panel space/composition/text needs.
It helps keep the characters from getting extremely weird/disproportionate. (If you’ve ever tried to draw a full figure on a sheet of paper, only to unconsciously shorten or cramp limbs when you get close to the edge of the paper in an effort to fit everything on the page, you know what I mean.)
I’ll often drawn the entire ‘scene’ outside of the panel/in a separate doc, then move the sketch into the panel, rather than draw directly in the bounds of the panel. It’s a lot less restrictive to draw the full figure then edit down, particularly if I’m doing a tight shot with a narrow focus.

BG + Color Adjustment:

I put a low opacity multiply + color layer over the characters base cell shaded colors to better match the scene.

I love these WIP posts! It's so cool to see the process, and it's clear how much work you put into this.
