2024: Results

Another year passed by and it's time to look back and reflect on what has been done. Here are some highlights:

Sanny Builder 4

The biggest release of the year. After 9 months in development a new major version landed on August, 4th, marking Sanny's 19th anniversary*. With tons of fixes and new features, such as functions, and above all - new consistent syntax backed by Sanny Builder Library definitions - it lays the foundation for cleaner and correct code. Hopefully, this time it also ends the endless confusion about param ordering and naming conventions. The release turned out to be very stable with just a few minor inconveniences reported, which I think can be attributed to easier update delivery and extensive beta testing strategy, something that I personally proud of.

*Fun fact: Sanny Builder 3 was released on the same day in 2007, 17 years ago.

CLEO Redux

A sudden update of the remastered trilogy prompted a need for an update of CLEO Redux, which is by far the only way to make new scripts for those games. Redux has been on hiatus since 2023, mainly due to the focus shift to other projects, but I went ahead to help the community and released v1.3.0 with support for the new patch. Can't help but notice that game code has been massively changed, so I had to re-discover all the memory addresses from scratch. A tedious work I must say, if you count the number of titles multiplied by the number of platforms, so I'm hoping not to return to it again soon. I'm also pleased to see some new people interested in using Redux in their projects. I think it has some great potential yet to unfold.

Somersault

I started a new project inspired by my previous work on CLEO Redux and Sanny Builder 4. This time I wanted to create a simple yet powerful scripting language that is native to the game (i.e. compiles to a regular SCM bytecode, unlike Redux using embedded JavaScript), but is not limited as much as SCM is. Here comes Somersault. I covered my progress in the previous posts, so if you're interested, take a look. It's under active development with more exciting features underway. Visit https://next.sannybuilder.com for the interactive language guide and a playground with online compiler support for you to try it out.

Sanny Builder Library

This year the website undergone massive updates for searching functionality and also welcomed a new section for documenting native functions in San Andreas. Coupled with powerful function support in Sanny Builder it makes calling game functions in scripts a breeze. Look at some of the code samples here.

Thanks to all new and seasoned contributors to the site content! Keep up the good work!

CLEO Library

CLEO 5 led by Miran entered the release candidate phase. The library is now stable with fewer incompatibilities with older versions (can be mitigated using .cs4 extension) and a huge set of new opcodes and extra functionality to help you develop faster and safer. The cleo.li website got a redesign, the first one since 2014, and information on the new version.

Also, don't miss a recent update of CLEO for III and Vice City by XMDS. Check out the changelog for more information.

Special shout out to our thriving Discord community and all people there helping growing it. And thanks to all my Patreon supporters!

Wishing you all the best in the upcoming 2025 year and happy coding!
