[Cogwork] Weapon - Alignment Adjudicator

It's no coincidence this device's appearance matches that of a celestial halo, a fiendish portal sigil, or the great wheel from which the planes of existence revolve around the Material Plane. This is one of many tools calibrators use to measure the balance between the alignments of order, chaos, good, and evil during the Great Calibration.

Alignment Adjudicator
Weapon (chakram), exotic, uncommon (requires attunement)

Exotic. You are only proficient with this weapon if you have the appropriate background or training (at GM's discretion).

Chakram. This basic ring-shaped weapon is a martial weapon used only by those familiar with their design. It has the Light, Finesse, and Thrown properties with a range of (30/120), and deals 1d6 slashing damage on a hit.

Detection and Adjudication. This magic weapon has 3 charges and regains 1d3 charges daily at noon. While holding this weapon, you can expend 1 charge as an action to cast detect evil and good from it. If you detect a creature this way, you also learn its alignment, if any. For the duration of the spell, you deal an extra 1d6 damage to targets you detect with this spell whenever you hit it with this weapon, and all its damage becomes force damage.

DESIGN COMMENTARY

Normally, uncommon items that require attunement have 1d3 casts of a spell each day. To me, the steep restrictions on the chakram's proficiency (martial and GM's discretion), means the extra 1d6 damage equates to what a typical martial character might already use -  a 2d6 damage weapon.

This item started from the basic cog=chakram idea and really grew. From a visual standpoint, I struggled a lot with creating something that didn't just look like a regular cog - I experimented with floating parts and joints, but in the end the most visually appealing aspect are the surface designs and the eight symbols - can you recognize some of them?
