[Cogwork] Item - Elementalist's Gauge

Fun fact - there was an earlier version of this wand design which had 5 prongs - one for each of the arcane elements. It ended up looking quite cumbersome and look unlike the metal detector wand I had envisioned. When I finished it, I also noticed there were no cogs on it. So I did a quick redraw and I'm much happier with this.

This gauge is designed to measure the fluctuations and balance of the arcane elements across the cosmos. Calibrators carefully wave the wand through rigorously defined materials or locations to receive accurate readings.

Elementalist's Gauge
Wand, rare (requires attunement)

While holding this wand, you have advantage on ability checks made to discern the presence of acid, cold, fire, lightning, or poison damage.  A gauge on the wand cycles through five elemental damage types: acid, cold, fire, lightning, and poison. When first found, the weapon is aligned to one of those damage types at random. Whenever you cast a spell through the wand that deals damage of the aligned type, you can cause one target of the spell to take an extra 1d8 damage of that type. Each day at dawn, the wand changes its alignment to the next damage type in the sequence.

Elemental Exchange. When you cast a spell through the wand that deals damage, you can change all of the spell's damage type to one of the five in the gauge (no action required). Once used, you can't use this property to choose that damage type again until the gauge aligns to it at dawn.

Very Rare Variant. While you hold this wand, you can also cast a cantrip at will from it. The cantrip depends on the wand's current aligned damage type: acid splash (acid), fire bolt (fire), poison spray (poison), ray of frost (cold), or shocking grasp (lightning).
