Any ranger kit will have some sort of trap, but it was strangely difficult to design a nonmagical trap since any snare trap could theoretically accommodate any mechanical use. It was also hard to design this magical stone from an artistic standpoint too since at the end of the day it was just a stone ... it needed to be inconspicuous but somehow imply druidic form through its use. I took inspiration from druidic stones, which are interesting old rock formations.
As for its use, it's designed for tracking and hunting prey. A single stone doesn't really work for a single attunement slot, so you can now attune to five with a single slot. Very importantly, all five stones still count as a single time to avoid Artificer shenanigans.

Each stone is marked with a minor teleportation rune, intrinsically linked to the druidic magic of the weave. With sizes as large as a fist, rangers take care to disguise them to ensure the stones do not prematurely alert their prey.

Ambuscade Stone
Wondrous item, uncommon (requires attunement)
Unlike other magic items, you can attune to up to 5 ambuscade stones with a single attunement slot. The stones collectively count as a single magic item; any effect that affects a magic item affects them all simultaneously.
Ambusher's Trap. As an action, you can expend a spell slot of 3rd-level or higher to activate this stone's magic and set it on the ground in a space within 5 feet of you. The stone's magic lasts for 1 hour and ends early if moved more than 10 feet from its original location. While the stone's magic is active, when a creature moves into a space within 5 feet of it, the stone telepathically notifies you while you are within 1 mile of it. If you are within 60 feet of the stone, you can immediately use your reaction to teleport to the stone, after which the stone's magic ends. The tiny stone generally appears to be a mundane stone, though a creature can succeed on a DC 15 Intelligence (Investigation) check to recognize it. Once used, the stone cannot be used again until the next dawn.
Ranger's Aid. These druidic stones were enchanted by ranger conclaves to track quarry over larger distances. If you are a Ranger, the level of the spell slot you must expend to use this trap decreases by 1, and you can teleport to the device from up to 120 feet away instead of 60 feet. Additionally, you can specify one of your favored enemy when you activate the device; if you do so, the device only triggers when one of your favored enemy moves within 5 feet of it. The device does not recognize a favored enemy if it is magically disguised as another type of creature.
