I dont think my mom respected or liked her parents much so a majority of my childhood was just without grandparents around.

2026-02-27 00:05:22 +0000 UTCAs a dog trainer of 17 years, Freddy, Matt is correct . All animals, even dogs, don't understand the complexity of a name being an identification of self. Even us to an extent. When we teach dogs their name the same way you described for cats. It's really fun to teach an animal how to communicate with you and you can do it with any animal. You might get creative in your reinforcement but it's all the same framework. :) It's how dogs (or any animal) can learn multiple languages for behaviors. Also fun example of the name thing. My dog's name is Magnus. My other dog's name is Daisy. If I really need Magnus' attention I won't say his name (because it is white noise to him) I'll just say "Daisy!" And he will look right at me. Because he associates her name with food happening near me π joys of social learning. He watched me teach her things and get treats for engaging. So he hears "Daisy" and is like omg omg omg food is happening with mom!!! π Animal behavior is super fun!!!
