The warrior cats series was my obsession around that age

Fantasy recs: the Tamora Pierce books were huge for me when I was a middle school girl :) I also work with kids and a lot of them LOVE wings of fire by Tui Sutherland and Land of Stories by Chris Colfer. Also highly recommend Dragons in a Bag by Zetta Elliott!

Aquatic Android

Fantasy/ magic series that i love and is YA is Akata Warrior ( the Nsibidi Script series) really good!

Big fan of the Young Wizards series by Diane Duane!!!!

Hayley Abramowitz

“The Half of It” was a perfectly average movie that I recently watched and realized Id seen before but totally forgotten haha

Trevor Cassidy

For a good fantasy book and a Suzanne Collins my favorite is the Gregor overland series

Twig

anyone remember the book silverwing? it was about bats, i remember reading as a kid in class and it was awesome

Gwen Remme

I remember really enjoying the Children of the Red King books (The Charlie Bone series) by Jenny Nimmo. Maybe a little young for 12, but they're fun!

Maddie

Read The Princess and the Pony for any young girl who is still into picture books but likes fantasy. It’s about a young princess who wants a warriors horse but instead gets a fat little pony that farts a lot. Not for a 12 yr old but potentially Matt’s daughter

Jennifer Anne

All Tamora Pierce!

Shannon

Bartimaeus and the Armulet of Samarkand and the other books in the series are absolutely great. By Jonathan Stroud. If anyone is still skimming the comments for recommendations xD

CRESTOMANCY MENTIONED?!

Robert Rhodes

What is the name of the book they were talking about? The one Matt's wife loves and have a destroyed copy of?

Marie-laurence Rivard-Fortin

Howls moving castle as a book series is a great! The last dragon chronicles and ghostcoming are also pretty good according to a librarian friend

GoblinGuy

The Edge Chronicles were entrancing as a kid with the coolest illustrations. I’ve heard the audiobooks are really well produced and perfect for long car rides. +1 to Tamora Pierce. She was my favourite author as a teenager. I re-read a few of her series recently and they were just as brilliant as I remembered.

Alena

Man, when I was 12 I LOVED the Eragon books. And now my 9 year old is equally in love with the series. AND there’s more of them coming out. So deff recommend Christopher Paolini’s inheritance cycle for kids. He was like 14 or something when he wrote the first book, so it was like perfect for that YA tween age group.

Margo Rubero

Garth Nix is a good author. My son and I read them together when he was a tween. The Ragwitch is my favorite, but I love dark fairytales. There are some longer series that are more adventure than horror

Beth R

I know I'm late commenting on this but Ranger's Apprentice. Dude wrote it as a story to share with his son. It's probably one of my favorite Middle Grade stories series that I've went through.
