The Christerion Collection Ep. 4 – Miracles From Heaven

Matt and Beth have risen again for another episode of The Christerion Collection!

Matt and Beth have risen again for another episode of The Christerion Collection! This time, they're breaking down the Jennifer Garner vehicle Miracles From Heaven, the first movie in the collection based on a true story about a little girl who says she went to heaven after being knocked unconscious.

The Christerion Collection Ep. 4 – Miracles From Heaven

Comments

When I was in youth group we went to see heaven is for real, I remember nothing accept that creepy little girl who died and came back and would paint hyper realistic paintings of Jesus. And hes blond with blue eyes. And people are like why? And they're like because god knew she'd feel safe around white Jesus. And i was like wow

Nan McVicker

Great to hear this movie exists! I think it might totally wreck me if I watch it but I’m glad I heard your guys’ takes. It sounds like a piece of art that only film done right could capture.

Clare

Gosh, I love Matt and Beth. The Christerion collection is so fun.

Alvin Bo Balvin

Finally listening (love it) and just want to point out that when Matt talked about wanting to take on a God's Not Dead sequel, there actually is already one from 2016 starring Melissa Joan Hart lol

Alex

More chrsiterion collection please!

Bex Boster

I would love to hear your thoughts on The Shack

Faith Jasmine

I think that’s technically a Jewish movie. But I’d still listen to them talk about it

Devon Willingham

Technically Signs and perks of being a wallflower are Christian movies

Devon Willingham

Ik it’s not funny but Matt summing up the whole plot of the movie as “you got a lot of poop in you” made me lose it

Saucey McBurgerpants

I watched this movie in one of our cinema's "Sneak Peaks". And I have to say, as a non-baptized heathen who usually doesn't like Christian movies, I really enjoyed it. Didn't feel boring at all to me, but that may have been because I knew nothing about the plot or the true story behind it, so I was anxious the whole time what would happen with the girl. What really shocked me was that scene when one of these church bitches insinuated that the family had done something wrong or not prayed or believed enough, so they "deserved" that horrible illness. It's been years since I saw it, but that stuck with me and I think about it from time to time. Would you consider "Signs" as a candidate for the Collection?

BudgiesAreTheBest

I love this series! I grew up in a very religious house with a pastor as a grandfather. After kind of drifting away from that it's really interesting to hear you guys' takes and ideas on these movies. I'm really hoping you make another one!

Trevor Wurtsmith

Oh wait, would you guys ever do Prince of Egypt?

Jordan Stickle

One Night with the King is a pretty good one I actually enjoyed growing up! Would love to hear y’all’s take!

Tesla Nicholls

Ya’ll should do Evan Almighty at some point, it was probably the only Christian movie both religious and non-religious friends of mine watched in theaters because it was a comedy etc.

Noelle Bartley

You guys should watch the Cokeville miracle

Lincoln Hickman

Although this podcast is not the main focus of your patreon, I can't wait for you two to return to it. I love diving in to my Christian faith and into Christian media bc most of does feel either too tame, toxic, flat, or uninteresting. I look forward to the next round of films. Here's hoping you eventually get to Noah, Prince of Egypt, Legion, and perhaps Constantine.

Levi Mock

Finally caught up with this after a season 2 re-listen. Fascinating conversation about a movie that sounds more interesting than I thought it would be based on the trailer? I will say, if y'all are interested in a fascinating movie about Christianity (Catholicism, really), I would love to hear you discuss Martin Scorsese's film SILENCE, about a pair of missionaries in shogunate Japan. Be warned, it's fuckin brutal.

Glenn

I hope we get more episodes of this! I really appreciate Matt's sheer knowledge of the dogma, and it helps me understand how some of these "function" as propaganda. Combined with both of your storytelling/narrative knowledge, these are actually really fascinating unpackings of these films, instead of just being a dunkfest. I enjoy the dunking, but the intelligent dunking is really a sweet spot.

Sata Prescott

I don't remember if they lose their faith cuz it's been like so long since I've seen the movie but I think fireproof might be interesting to look back on now that I'm not in the church anymore. Because like if I'm thinking about it the only thing is I remember the husband gives the wife a cup of coffee and I was like wow he's really trying and now I'm like oh dude is just a nice cohabiter lol

Bex Boster

Just fyi: they’re wrong. Hell isn’t in California, it’s in Michigan.

Bramblin’ Man

You guys should do prince of Egypt

Josie Walker

I hope more of this is on the way. As a casual satanist who is married to a lapsed Catholic, this is really hitting the sweet spot for me. I see a lot of suggestions for other movies, but I would love to hear your take on a film called "Saved!" It's a favourite of my wife and I, but it really didn't get the spotlight it deserved. I think you guys would enjoy it.

Matt Daniels

Hell yeah! I love the christerion collection sm!

Maeson Banks

It might be too goofy compared to the other movies you two have covered so far but I would love an episode on Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat!

Venus DeMilo

I've been loving this series as an ex-christian leftist. I think a REALLY fun movie for you guys to watch from this lens is Nefarious. A bit of a change up, a lot of interesting cooked right wing shit to discuss. Obviously not your typical "Christian" movie but when the 'demon' starts talking about 'the carpenter' I thought of you immediately. I think there is some connection to other Christian pro-lofe movie makers so tw as needed

Tellie

I’m always impressed by how kind you guys are to these movies! Deserving or not!! ;D but I’d be interested to hear your guys’ analysis on beloved movies like Prince of Egypt!

Alyssa

it may have already been mentioned but y’all should look into a movie called The Shack. it’s a christian movie but it doesn’t follow the same plot line as the previous episodes haha. i remember it being well produced so it may be a fun choice !!

Kaley Maier

Patiently waiting for you to watch fireproof and courageous

Arielle Cuebas

Do cokeville miracle

Kazlyn

You should watch Ordinary Angels which feels like a spiritual successor to this movie and also everyone is hot

Ro Faulkner

I love these. Personally I’d like to hear you both talk about the davinci movie series because as a former Roman Catholic I don’t understand them haha

Stevie Bear

Absolutely love these!!

Ben Johnson

I’ve never heard Eugenos name pronounced like that Jesus

Jose Alvarez

holy shit i watched this movie! on a sleepover birthday party when i was 15.....I only remember being lowkey traumatized by it

Laeticia

I love this intro

Brandon W

I've been hoping they'd do that one. Such a "benign" movie in some ways but that scene 3/4 of the way through was so deeply problematic I couldn't get it out of my head...

Rebecca D

fuuuuuck just you guys talking about the scene where the little girl told her mom to kill herself to come see her in heaven broke me. I've been tearing up the whole time because of it.

Zack Bochman

I love these! Have you guys seem The Shack?

Tim Roberts

PLEASE keep doing these <333

Doot Doot

You 2 could review any movie and I would listen to the whole thing every time. Do more!

Shawn Edmond

Solid episode! Maybe try Fireproof next- I haven't seen it but I understand it's a different subgenre than what you've been talking about so far.

b.scatterplot@gmail.com

I know it's a whole (who cares just do season 1) series and also a tiny digression but I think you two dishing on The OA would be amazing.

Dj Travioli

Please never stop doing these!! They’re so good

Vince DiGuglielmo

I LOVE this podcast

Savanah De Hart

I think it's fine. Matt and Beth are always charming. But listening to people talk about religion just makes my skin crawl. I feel uncomfortable the whole time. I'm a former Catholic School attendee- but my experience was not as nice as Matt's.

Cassie Muldrow

I don't know why but the "conversion" storyline reminded me of Midnight Mass 😂

Alexandra Grilli

Yes I was going to say the same thing!!

Christina Whelan

Please please PLEASE do Old Fashioned!! I

Joey Joe Joe Jr. Shabbadoo

I fucking love this podcast

Cheyenne Stone

I think it might be healing for people who feel like you do

Mark Fizzy

I love love love this series so much I hope you guys keep making this. As an agnostic with a bad experience with Christianity, it's healing hearing 2 of my favorite artists talk about their feelings and experiences too

Mark Fizzy

Perhaps a too earnest suggestion: Son of Man (2006) is a South African retelling of the Jesus's life that I found pretty interesting

Erik Mohr

Prince of Egypt. Banger soundtrack.

Joe Smokonich

I mean if you want a good movie, The Prince of Egypt is right there…

Tanner McGuire

This was fantastic. I would love to hear y’all discuss Bible man. Or Veggietales.

Jacob Crothers

FINALLY

Peachy

NEED them to watch veggie tales lord of the bean

Nicole Boisseau

Man you guys should totally check out Assassin 33 A.D., there is so much to discuss with that film

Chris

i do think this falls slightly in the category of "believer -> questioning -> something good happened and now i love god" category. but the reconciler is like christian saw and it is batshit insane. the moral of it is essentially about forgiveness no matter the other person did. and the journey there sure is something

Kyra Lang

This recovered Southern Baptist wants so many more of these. It's so refreshing to hear somebody approach this objectively awful genre with well educated skepticism and yet such an open mind. Is this podcast available to listen to anywhere else?

Jaime Timesamillion

I think if you guys are wanting a super interesting movie that I think most people aren't aware of, watch Fearless. It stars Jeff Bridges and is truly a weird watch. He does excellent acting in it and has an overarching Christian theming without ever falling one way or the other on the subject. I feel it leaves the viewer to decide.

Colin Herrington

If you want something Christian but with very different vibes, check out Redeeming Love. Its a Christian Western that gets absolutely wild and is extremely problematic.

Devin Awe

Facing the Giants is hands down the worst movie I've ever seen and it's alllllll about Christ and Football.

Jack Buckley

Absolutely! Religion also makes me angry and I’ve been SUPER enjoying these episodes

Rain Yang

Religion makes me angry. So I've been scared to even try to listen to these. Should I????

Cassie Muldrow

Former catholic school kid here! You could potentially add movies that were watched in religion classes to your list! While they weren’t necessarily Christian movies they had Christian tones; for example these were memorable ones for me: -A Walk to Remember -Remember the Titans -Finding Nemo (had to write a paper likening the story to a bible story my junior AND senior year)

Ellen H.

Best surprise to wake up to!!!!!!

Ranger Bradley

I love this series

Smo

I’m foaming at the mouth waiting for them to tackle the mind crush that is “The Shack”

Lane Busby

Fun series. Solomon Kane with James Purefoy sometime?

Gregbusinessman

Really enjoy this series, lots of interesting takes!

hopelesslyhanna

Would you guys consider an episode on Noah? Its weird because its not exactly a christian movie but a movie based on christian mythos.

Cammy

I wanna know what you all say about other states! 🤣😂

Paul Litch

Would love yall opinion on this movie called The Reconciler. its basically christian Saw lol

Mercedes Guidry

“Christian Mingle” is different but the worst movie I’ve ever seen. It stars Gretchen Weiners from Mean Girls!

Shannon

Would love to see a deep dive on Saltburn. This is mainly because there was a meme on tiktok where creators went “like saltburn? try… The bible!” and as someone who has never studied the Bible in any way would love someone who were raised on it to break it down.

Connor Reemts

My parents were obsessed with these stories and movies. Love hearing the reviews

Sam Quinn

you should d a review of Jesus christ super star or Joseph ahtgc

Joshua Johnso

Would love to see a review of Jesus Revolution, it’s a very different plot to the ones you’ve been watching so far and is also “based on a true story”. I’ve watched it recently and I’d love to hear you guys thoughts.

Jono Roberts

Love this series so much!! Keep them coming please! I really enjoyed Matt’s research into comparing the book and the movie and the discussion of what changed when switching mediums of storytelling. That was super interesting!

Carmen Sterk

Lol I’m listening to episode 1 again where you’re all explaining which films you’re looking at, and I see it’s less about scripture-based rather than ones that seem seek to proselytize in some way, which the ones I mentioned do not do, really

Ashley Marion Biehl

LOVE THIS SERIES!

Sheila Yeboah

Omg or Jonah: a veggie tales movie

Ashley Marion Biehl

What are the criteria for what makes a “Christian movie” for this podcast bc I would love to hear you talk about the 1999 film version of “Joseph & the amazing technicolor dream coat,” “the prince of Egypt”, and “the passion of the Christ” lol

Ashley Marion Biehl

Matt and Beth have this really charming nervous energy when treading on subject matter like Christianity. I like how they balance their takes in like a kind way

Ironicmenswear

Yo, you guys should watch Fireproof. It’s wild. I had a full blown panic attack in the theatre at like 12 cause the fighting in it felt so much like home. Main actor wouldn’t kiss the actress playing his wife, so they had to do silhouette shots with his wife standing in, and she’s very not the same size 😆 Also dude physically chucks his like ‘06 desktop against a wall because a pop-up add. 🤣🤣 And it’s not the same belief-based structure, it’s mostly about the marriage. And porn.

Josiah Muskrat

There’s a date out for it, bludo. Being rude is no way to show your gratitude for the past two seasons and all the sick bonus content they’ve done.

William Cumpose

Hell yes!! I love the christerion collections!!! Bouta listen for the end of my shift

William Cumpose

They literally gave us a release date for season 3? Chill tf out

Tessa Mackintosh

Then don’t listen

Jeff Gladd

They just finished s2 give them a minute to reset,

Jeff Gladd
