[Teen Talk] S2 Ep. 47 - Inside the Actor's Funeral

The Dad Crew sits down to talk about the latest episode of season two including how the "Send in the Clowns" intro came together, the pressure Will felt coming into this episode and how he approached Normal's grief. Plus, of course, some deep Shade Witch lore.

They also answer some questions and give out The Daddy Awards for everyone favorite media of the year.

My family used to do the one present on Christmas Eve too

Kaiberly Cournoyer-Rowland

Yall, I’m gonna need an annual daddy awards with like top three/books/podcasts movies/shows/games. Especially with how much yall talk about them 🤣

Mighty Mjolnir

Dungeons and daddies 1/2 a group of other dad's who also accidentally got transported at the same time and were there for all the events or arrive after lol

the chompie man

Anthony how dare you for that Sondheim disrespect, not a dis a disrespect!

Quantum OFZENTRIX

Thanks for this. I was literally thinking of leaving a comment asking for this! I listen to this at work and I often miss the names due to me using power tools and end up having to go back and write them down later on

Callam Thompson

Holy shit! I was literally thinking, I hope someone mentions Rick Rubin's The Creative Act. It was my favorite book of 2023. I've been a musician for over 20 years and that book addresses nearly everything I've experienced as a songwriter and I agree with all his thoughts and opinions on initial brainstorming, creativity, finishing a project, releasing it to the world, and how that changes the way we see our creations in the end. And Rubin's "source" is something I actively engage with. I've tried to talk about it before with friends and other musicians but was never able to express or define it as well as Rubin does in this book. Love that you guys brought this up. I recommend it all the time.

OMG we NEED shadewitch shades in the store 😂😂😂😂

Just Drago Games YT

I did my first biographical book report on Tony Hawk and over the years he continues to impress me with his generosity and spirit. I watch VGHS on YT twice a year and those scenes always get me. As well as the pizza vending machine yall paid so much money for lol

Jonathan Goddard

Now I really want to run Dungeons and Daddies as a campaign for my group.

The Overthinker

Thank you so much for doing this

AutumnBlueSky

I listen to mostly this and Behind The Bastards and I very much appreciated that ad pivot. It will never get old for me.

Pidgey koto

Have anyone addressed what seems to be Anthony’s new tin can microphone experience? Not sure if the echo from his mic is a permanent/intentional thing, but it’s definitely noticeable!

Sam S.

Beth, Your talking point about your favorite recent book, regarding mental illness/victimizing. Have you considered a more positive phrase ? Saying mental health, as opposed to mental illness ? Not for “woke” reasons. Just for conscious/subconscious mindset and empowerment. Just a thought. You all are winners and awesome. Keep up the great work!

THANK YOU

james carter

favorite Teen Talk of the year tbh

jacey g.

Its a term used for men who... like children in not a good way.

Shade witch and Candlethorpe, slow burn, enemies to lovers spin-off when?

CopperKnight

What’s funny about the Tony Hawk thing is that I remember watching the first of any sort of Cartoon Network Sports Awards and he hosted it. One of the ads though had him walk awkwardly onto stage like he couldn’t stand. But it cut back to him skateboarding and him saying something like, “this is much better.” Can’t believe that was real

BlankPapers

Robert Evans couldn't handle losing the Raytheon knife missile ad spot. They can't do this to him

Amber Robertson

Freddie just downplayed his portrayal of Glenn and Taylor simultaneously, but that is a masterpiece in my opinion. No offense to Will but I think all his characters are different facets of himself. So they can blur together a lot and it's never more apparent than when he's acting them together. Matt and Beth are definitely more character actors. They come up with a vision and play solely that. Beth with a little more bleed. Matt refusing all bleed, lol. And Freddy is playing his various fantasy's out so that's wildly interesting take on a mix of characterizing one's self. Just my opinion though.

Darryl Holiday II

The stages of grief point so so true. I re-listen to all the eps on Spotify so I can be completely caught up and I can’t listen to that again

Zero Guy

I knew somehow that Anthony's got the sponsor bit from BtB. Definitely nailed it, can't wait for Raytheon to pick up the daddies

Marcel Cabato

Is there anyway you could make a list of recommendations as a note or mention in the description?

Cain Morgan

Oh my god, I’m totally doing my own dungeons and daddies story now with my group and calling Fathers and Fantasies

Burnzie Burnz

Episode 47 is in my opinion the best of the season!

Burnzie Burnz

DO A POWERBOMB!!! Go read everything Daniel Warren Johnson has done. Extremity is good. Murder Falcon is amazing. and his re-imagining of Transformers is on the same level.

Charlie Lewis

YES!! Everything Daniel Warren Johnson has done!!!

Charlie Lewis

So upon listening to episode 15 of season two I’m fully expecting season three to be Beth casting spider climb on the boyz and starting the adventures of Spider boyz.

Creekie05

Nooo keep the shade witch !

Boba

I hope Freddy drops the link for the DIY mic stuff. That sounds like such a fun project

Jordan Jones

What is its meaning in Canada? Sincerely, an ignorant American

Samantha Mann

oppenheimers bomb was cool, but godzilla minus one atomic breath scene was a masterclass on big monster movies.

Wira Dwijati

Past Lives mentioned! I worked on it for the NYC shoot

Dakota Drown

Yes Do A Powerbomb is amazing! Even if you don’t like wrestling that much it’s an amazing story, everyone should check it out!

Cameron Faulkner

I love Behind the Bastards so shout out to Anthony for the shout out to them for the throw to sponsors. The way he rolls in and the guest has to be like "umm..Commercial break" cracks me up every time.

Dj Travioli

The Boy and the Heron was good, Godzilla Minus One was better

Phorsi

Game of the year -> baldurs gate 3.

Robert Burkhart

Now we just need to see Anthony dance. TRIPLE THREAT!

Angela Shrader

Serious question for Mr. Arnold (mainly because he's the only one that's talked about being a Riordan fan), have you read "Chalice of the Gods", and what were your thoughts?!

Ashleigh Swinson

I think the episode would have been better if Beth unintentionally kill normal and they had to instead be revived.

jen Rogue

Hearing you talk about the possibilities of season 3 made me so happy. I've been listening to dungeons and daddies at work so that my Audhd brain is engaged and I'm infinitely excited for whatever is to vome

mishoru

No one mourns a theater kid 😔 RIP hermie 😢

Alyssa

Ah, that's fair. Honestly I've given up on the MCU other than Guardians because I feel like James Gunn just did his own thing for the most part

Chantelle Black

Did these guys watch Evil Dead Rise? It was a great soft reboot and was a joy to watch.

Andrew Duck

They’re not big on the Marvel Movies and the MCU . I bet they saw it and thought it was fine, but nothing to get excited about, especially with how the Marvel machine is working at the moment.

Andrew Duck

Y'all really slept on Guardians Vol 3, huh? Did y'all not see it, not enjoy it or just forgot it came out this year?

Chantelle Black

Fun fact: Prayer hands emoji are actually a high five.

Vampire the Assquerade

Can’t wait for the candlethorp and shade witch one shot

Ace Hutson

I second Freddie's recommendation for Frieren. Although I do have to point out that saying it's by the same studio that made Summer Wars a bit misleading because Frieren doesn't share the same staff as Summer Wars. You're better off checking out Studio Chizu, which is co-founded by the director of Summer Wars, Mamoru Hosoda.

Soupkitten

YES - I'm so happy that the ad throw was a BTB reference

Brook Sibary

You should read the Malazan book of the Fallen by Steven Erickson or the gap cycle by Stephen Donaldson

Maxime Caron

Love you all <3

Bishibosh44

too good for any world <3

Olm

Whoops, my bad. And based off context from his latest cosmere novel, I think space age is my guess!

Reilly Gillis

Era 2 is 4 books. Will be interesting to see what era 3 is. Speculation is either space age or cold war.

Kelsey Reyer

A video game reference from Beth May? When did we change timelines?

Kelsey Reyer

the way i need this crew to see Poor Things in theatres and talk about it ASAP. also a script doctor-ing of Wish would be appreciated ☠️

KeikoPin Cosplay

Literally so psyched that Will is DMing for awhile!

tea-and-muffins

My favorite book of the year is The Sunlit Man, by Brandon Sanderson. It is phenomenal!

Clayton Brewer

Goof has a VERY different meaning in Canada 😅

The Crow Witch

Hi it’s me - patiently waiting for that Instagram post so I can add every one of those books to my Amazon shopping list

Erethizon_dorsatum

Freddy- if you haven't read it, based on the pitch for the anime you were talking about, I highly recommend reading the mistborn series by Brandon sanderson! (Who Will actually turned me on to in a previous talking dad conversation about books!) There's 2 trilogies in the series right now, the first takes place hundreds of years after the world has been dominated by an evil overlord and follows the resistance to his rule, your typical fantasy swords and magic, with a really cool and unique magical system. But the second 3 books take place a couple hundred years after the events of the first 3, so essentially the events of the first 3 have become the history and mythology of the world, the system of magic is still the same, but technology and society have progressed to sort of a wild west/Victorian level. And I believe the next 3 are going to be the same worlds space age, but that's just speculation based off of one of his other books!

Reilly Gillis

Can someone explain what a cheeseburger movie is?

Olivia Eliasson

Or that world rather

Seaglassslipper

Oh Shade Witch, you burned so brightly in your short time. You were too good for this world. 🥹
