[Teen Talk] Ep. 10 - Dad Me to Hell

We get into the tenth episode of season two including the differences between playing a fully-formed adult versus a teenager finding themselves, Anthony's mechanic for judging the debate, and the big lore drop about the Dads' history.

Plus, we talk about using "printer trouble" to buy time to finish projects, weird high school traditions, Matt's affinity for shallow water, and the VHS movies everyone watched over and over as a kid.

I'm just now listening to this, and Will mentioning his writing for a newspaper and his imagery of "I had a hole in my bucket" just made me have to pause this because it caught me off guard and I think I might have to check a bucket of mine for holes. Thank you, I suppose

uuuuh Clara

The Audible gasp I had when Freddy said the sledgehammer hit a girl

Blu

Lol “what is warhammer” we all know now

Abby Normal

I know other people probably mentioned it already but listening to them say 1/8 is lower odds than 1/10 was wild to me lmao

Shel B Kennas 1st fav sprite girl! Wishing a Merry Mariachi to Emily Happy Fucking Bday to Jork hope you both had perfect days

An old trick that doesn't work as often anymore: open your Word document in notepad and randomly delete a section of text, then resave as a word document. Upload and it will show an error then the teacher usually reaches out by the time you've finished and you can go "oh weird, what about this?"

Furiam Ostenha

At my highschool our mascot was a Trojan guy, so at all the prep ralleys students would blow up condoms like balloons and bat them to each other.

Grace Taylor

God damn it, Beth... I looked up "Laura of the Woods" on Radio Rental, and now I'm skeeved out.

King Humble

College Will is my fucking hero cause god same

Frankie Franco

As part of the beginning of online education, my go to trick was the corrupted copy/fail to upload. "Oh, I accidentally uploaded the wrong paper. Oh, you can't read it it was "corrupted"". Saved my neck a few times.

Alexander Seedorf

I always double space after a period. It was taught as an old typing skill from the days of typewriters, and it’s surprising how much space it adds over the course of a long paper.

Eli Neal

My favorite VHS was the original Power Rangers

Edward Sena

Anyone have a bell and had to run naked to it and back in college?

Michael Valdivia

I failed Planet Earth at USC too! I used it as my GE pass lol

Hailey Koart

On the topic of Nick Foster’s betrayal, I think the memory syringe might come into play as to why he thinks he was betrayed

Noah Nguyen

obviously the good ship "Title of Ep. 10" has long set sail but hear me out: "Dad out of Hell" (as in the Meatloaf song/album)

Veit

I really just want to watch the 5 of you play among us now hahaha

that one uglyduck

Okay I love this lol

Lis Telep

To Matt's story with Dot and movies- I was really scared of the evil talking dogs in Up and the scene where the old guy hits the construction worker

Alex Wade

Will I just wanna give you a big hug 🥺 I'm so sorry you felt that way about yourself especially at such a young age 💔

Alex Wade

YES I love these after-ep talks that spend time on what y'all loved about the episodes. It's just so nice hearing people talk about what they love and are excited to share.

also, id meant to mention, there have also been some studies done about kids and young teens liking horror so much, and it in fact apparently being good for them. i dont remember any details but i do remember it has something to do with facing danger, and experiencing fear, but not having to actually be put in *real* danger to do it. iirc its good for mental development and emotional control and stuff like that.

Jake Anderson

my movie that id just watch on repeat was the old Gen1 Transformers: The Movie. my mom would do the same thing where shed just rent that and put it on in lieu of hiring a baby sitter. im in my mid 30s now and i can still just put that on and watch it through at basically any time. and i also loved horror movies as a kid and watched quite a few of them, and even with kids movies, the "scary" parts were always my favorite. i saw one horror/action movie when i was a kid that became my white whale cause i didnt know what it was and nobody i described it to had ever seen such a thing. i did eventually find it, or rather my cousin who i had originally watched it with did. the movie was Zeiram, and its a japanese movie that as far as i know wasnt super popular, so its not surprising nobody in the pre-internet US midwest knew about it. and also, my mom kept all my old notebooks from when i was a kid and she gave them to me a few years ago. i found a drawing of the main bad guy, Zeiram himself, that i had drawn from memory in a notebook from like 1st or 2nd grade, along side a bunch of other "normal" kids drawing id done.

Jake Anderson

Matt you're absolutely right, sitting around in shallow water is a deluxe experience and I will defend sitting/laying down in the shower until I die

Viyerre

...

Corbyn J Hardy

Where would you return your child? “Excuse me, I’d like to return this child. It’s defective, it doesn’t like Warhammer”

Hoppa

Matt keeps building Link in ways that I respect. Props!

Anyone know what the Entourage thing they’re talking about is? Was it a bonus one shot? I went to go listen to it but wasn’t finding it.

Megasloth Slothsvillian

Similar to Beth's story about the teacher who was a huge stickler for formatting, I had a teacher take 15 points off my final paper because I was half a page over if you counted the title page, which I didn't know he was going to do, and because I didn't capitalize my name in the submission title for the paper. This put me at an 89.2 and you needed an 89.5 to get an a- and he wouldn't give me the 3 points even though there was an error in the grading of my paper that would have gotten me the 3 points. I ended up with one of the highest grades in the class at an 89.2

Sydney Ess

As long as you're putting episode names in the bag for later, "Link or Taylor: Solder? Spy?" for a party-split episode popped into my head unannounced and won't leave now.

Kenneth Ward

Started listening to podcast recently and binged them all, hearing Matt talking about Dot as asking for things was crazy cause just listening to the first season I was like oh yea time has passed, he doesn’t just perpetually have a newborn

jacob donnelly

I rented The Brave Little Toaster from Blockbuster over and over and over when I was a kid.

Liz York

I can't wait till Beth finds out about Chaos and its wonderful taint :) Death to the False Emperor!

Brad Cohn

The other horrific thing is the 'i don't want to play with you anymore scene in toy story. NOPE

Owen

Finding Nemo is so terrifying as a child. The barracuda, the scuba diver, being kidnapped, the sharks, being in a place far from home, the fish tank fan scene and the damn jellyfish and dory almost dying. Wow is that terrifying.

Owen

Guess you need matt to secretly be a tortoise then

Owen

Freddy, this is teen talk lmao. You've introduced it as talking dads twice now

Lydia

I have a recurring dream where I have to go back to high school because I didn't hand in a project and failed a class. I'm 37 years old now and never failed a class... I have no idea what memory this dream is rooted to.

JJ Writes Everything

Jaws, Jurassic Park, and The Temple of Doom were my repeat movies as a child.

Sean Burton

I am a certified Christian and like, at MOST Nick would be one of the saints that they paint really hot for some reason. (Like St Sebastian who's all naked and tied to a tree???) I think if Jesus was anybody He would be like, Henry? Definitely operating in different contexts tho

Josie

I’ve got pretty bad ADHD and it leads to loads of procrastination. We had to turn in these three essays on a book for my literature class- the morning of, I wrote every single essay in two hours. I did not read the book. I got a 58/60

-eldritch-h0rr0r-

My version of the floppy disc story was using a website to corrupt a word doc and turn it in, 8/10 times it worked

Grnt

Matt. Slow down. You speak so quickly that you're difficult to understand.

Virgil McClurken

"Matt is secretary a tortoise" had me rolling 🤣

Chantelle Black

Laura of the woods messed with me when I first read it on reddit years ago. Also for fans of The Office, Radio Rental is hosted by Rainn Wilson!

BigBaldWolf

And that sticking to the formatting requirements prevents a lot of headache and eye strain for teachers who have to read 90+ papers every term.

Steven R

Just a quick note to any soon to be college students listening—you absolutely will get into trouble nowadays if you turn in the same paper to multiple classes 😂
