[Teen Talk] Ep. 3 - The Unbearable Linkness of Peeing
Added 2022-03-02 05:00:03 +0000 UTC
A discussion of episode three of the new season, including the way the whale scene was stitched together, Matt's clutch urology class line, and the aggressive improv of the quick parent scenes.
Plus, we get into everyone's classic high school ditch spot, stories of panic and near-disaster with college midterms or finals, and favorite coming-of-age books and movies.
To defend the Cern fans, Cern was very funny and likable when he was one dimensional before he learns the dads involvement with the pyramid. Afterwards, his scenes were really emotional and poignant especially with the help of the edit, but he wasn’t ever really funny again so *shrug*
I do get that, as players, he is probably one of the more annoying characters as he would just pop up every once in a while, cause problems and then get emotional, which feels very true to character, but not as fun in the room :)

it’s so wild to say but it feels really validating to hear that I wasn’t the only one who was a complete mess in HS and College and that you guys made new friends after those periods of life. Anyway, just thanks for the reminder that my friendship making days aren’t completely gone

Jumping in super late to say that I hate A Separate Peace with every fiber of my being, and nobody I know has ever read it. For the first time, I feel so seen and validated that so many of you also hate it.

Never been to college, can say tho I use to “ditch” in the sense of I would take my sweet time getting lunch food cause for some reason in Utah they allow students to just leave campus and trust they will come back. I didnt have a car at the time so i would just walk up to wendy’s or any other place nearby and just take my sweet time coming back to school. I needed to take the bus to and from school so like going home def wasnt an option. However If I had a car in high school I would definitely just go home and not go back and lie to my mom “oh school ended early” even tho my school will call to report my absences all the time lmao

Freddie talks about the Hatchet scene where he has to dive for supplies but doesn’t mention the half-decomposed pilot’s head😬 THAT’S what stuck with me. I don’t remember that part being in the movie but I didn’t find any of the movie particularly memorable.

Chronicles of Prydian, the official name of the series that Taran Wanderer is from, I love. Protagonist starts as a genuinely immature kid at the beginning, but seeming him grow up is so organic and loving and satisfying

Some of you may be asking, “Jake, how do you know this?” And the answer is simple! I went to public school in North Carolina, where they will ALWAYS show the class a movie instead of reading a book… Did I read Tuck Everlasting? No, but I’m very familiar with the widely panned 2002 Alexis Bledel vehicle of the same name… How about Secret Garden? Nope, but Maggie Smith was legitimately wonderful in the 1993 release… Great Gatsby? Nah man, but the 1974 version was the OG of screwing up a film adaptation… It’s amazing that I ever learned how to read and write…

Just to set the record straight, there IS a movie version of Hatchet :) They changed the name, but it’s the exact same plot and characters. It’s called A Cry in the Wild (1990), and it is legitimately terrible and hilarious. 10/10 recommend 😜😜😜

You gotta watch "Booksmart" for fantastic coming of age movies. Came out 2019, the premise is two girls who sacraficed their social life to ensure they got into good colleges discover that everyone else did well at school too and try and find out where the big grad party is going down to make a last high school memory. Really funny, kinda like superbad without the questionable character motivations.

I did. It was a "what if" scenario where brian hadn't been rescued and had to endure the winter. I didn't care for it as much as the original but it does show that he may have continued to survive if he hadn't been found.

Beth! I love you more now!
I've never known anyone else that's read veronika decides to die! I loved that book in high school (and still do) and i often think about the king whose people went mad from the well being poisoned and the only way for him to remain king was to poison himself as well. Or that the function of a tie is solely to provide relief at the end of the day :)
