I was contacted to redesign an insectoid character, the commissioner didn't have a particular idea planned but gave me full freedom to work with whatever I wanted.
Here are some of the reference files I got:

PHASE ONE: GENERAL DESIGN WORK
I decided I wanted to take the character through 3 different concept lines: a more bug/sci-fi route, a draconic route and a "furry" route. Here's what I came up with.
The commissioner decided on the draconic style with a few tweaks. So afterwards it was time for colors!
PHASE TWO: COLOR DESIGN WORK
I wanted to keep a similar palette to previous pictures of the character which ranged in the black/grey/purple colors. So here was a first draft
And then a second round after some tweaking
Finally after the last round of revisions we settled on the final design!

Hopefully you found some of the description interesting, but this is basically what goes on when I design characters!
