Order Dragons have been bred specifically for generations keeping some of the traits that make them special to the Order. Their main trait is their ability to form telepathic links with a chosen bondmate from birth. Wild dragons can only communicate with other dragons (Order or not).
Order Dragons are also favored for their lither frame, aerodynamic shape and generally friendlier disposition (obviously their have all sorts of personalities haha) while Wild Dragons tend to be more aloof and uninterested about the rest of the world. Order Dragons also live less than Wild Dragons this is so when either the Rider or the Dragon die of old age their partner doesn't have to live long with the pain of their loss, very often the pair dies together peacefully.
Order Dragons can still live easily up to the century, reaching maturity early. This gives them ample time in their prime to complete their missions and keep the peace as well as indulging in their base instincts from time to time. You cannot breed the Wild out of the Dragon after all haha.

I KNOW! I always was irked at that (Dragon Riders of Pern started it if I remember correctly) like obviously it would be a huge blow but WHY DO THE DRAGONS HAVE TO DIE ALL THE TIME?!
2020-07-05 01:21:13 +0000 UTCThere's probably a good chunk of the Wild Dragon population that is turning more like Order dragons but the Wild Population is much larger than the Order one so the effect is quite mitigated
2020-07-05 01:18:45 +0000 UTCActually, this brings up a question. Order Dragon males and females are encouraged to mate as the mood takes them, especially with Wild dragons. So does that mean the wild dragons are slowly being bred to be more like Order dragons?

2020-07-02 11:18:23 +0000 UTCInteresting, I gotta say I like this setup a lot better than something like Eragon. The dragon being able to survive their rider's passing and avenge them, i.e. if it's something like bandits, is SO MUCH better storytelling than the bond being a suicide pact.
