I don't think you should would worry about losing any monk subscribers as a result of the Candide episodes. I'm pretty sure they all left last month!
2021-02-24 15:46:35 +0000 UTCIt's been a while since I've read the Conan stories, but I remember at least one where he was a king, not a roving pauper. Incidentally Conan is the only way I've made it through this months episodes, everytime Chris or Chad say Candide, my mind translates it to Conan.

2021-02-19 13:09:30 +0000 UTCWhen I was a child, I had a book of Jack Tales - the same Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk - and they gave me so much pleasure. Doctor Dolittle similarly was episodic and adventurous and wild. Much later, I mourned the loss of my Jack Tales book then was mortified when a re-reading of the good Doctor revealed some truly awful racism. When I discovered that Voltaire had done it far earlier and far better, I read each page with a mixture of rose-colored Jack glasses and Doctor anxiety. I decided it stayed just this side of the Jack line, but didn't trust that opinion fully. Hearing you two talk about it with such joy is a great relief. I much look forward to the wrap up.

2021-02-18 03:57:56 +0000 UTCAn abbé is an abbot, the head of a monastery. I do like that he's from the Périgord, which was where I was when I read Candide. It's the land of 1,001 castles. Actually a few more than that (https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_des_ch%C3%A2teaux_et_demeures_de_la_Dordogne), but the local tourism office says "this formula has a very pubic sound" (https://www.perigord.com/en/mille-et-un-chateaux-en-dordogne/). I think they left the "l" out of "publicitaire", meaning "like marketing", on the French version and translated it literally,

2021-02-18 00:33:25 +0000 UTCOoh, I love all of those. Especially Tristram Shandy. It's probably not Weird enough, although it is weird.

2021-02-17 23:58:25 +0000 UTCI’d love to read a conversation between the two. I wonder what Candide would think of Cimmerian religious beliefs.
2021-02-17 19:56:19 +0000 UTCHas anyone else every compared Candide with Conan?
2021-02-17 11:27:40 +0000 UTCYou guys seem to be having more fun with this than I've heard in a long time and it's delightfully infectious. Have you ever thought of adding Rabelais to your list? You guys would do Gargantua and Pantagruel right! A romance about giants is defintely weird fiction! And then what about Tristram Shandy? A guy telling most of a story from the womb or his dad's pants? Do it!!!!!!
