2025-01-18 16:30:54 +0000 UTCit took a while, but Ash has finally reached another Gym lol, it's been like 26 episodes since the last Gym, so near half the series so far, it's still such a weird gap to me, the only things I can think that might have caused it are 1, the epilepsy incident, and 2, the fact we're actually nearing the end of the first game now, so they were probably stalling for time a little while trying to decide the direction of the series going forward, like the next gen of games wouldn't start for another full year after this episode aired. Game Freak was actually started as a small self published magazine before the owner and one of their new artists wanted to try and make their own videogames. They never expected Pokemon to take off the way it did, in fact the development of the first game nearly bankrupted Gamefreak to the point their founder started taking odd jobs during development to pay his staffs wages, but it was his passion project, so he wanted to do it. Then they approached Nintendo to form a deal for access to money, resources and their developers in exchange for a co-ownership deal, and well, you can obviously see just how well it's paid off for them.
