Big Changes Are Coming to Patreon (and to Us!)

Hey everyone,

As you may have heard, Patreon is making big changes due to Apple's subscription policies.

Starting November 2025, they will no longer support the per-creation model that we're on. Instead, they're shifting everything to a monthly subscription system. This is not a choice given to us; we need to change to subscription billing if we want to remain on Patreon. Unfortunately, we are forced to adapt. But we’re not waiting until the last minute!

We’re taking this lousy news as an opportunity to plan a smooth transition and improve things for YOU. Here’s what’s coming:

Our Transition Plan

We won't wait until November. We’re switching to their new monthly subscription billing by April 2025 to stay ahead of Patreon’s changes and give us all time to adapt appropriately and make plans. This process will be automatic, meaning most of you won’t have to do anything.

Essentially, those in the $1, $3, and $5 tiers will seamlessly convert. Unfortunately, those on the (hidden) $1, $2, and $10 tiers will need to step into one of the new tiers manually. Don't fret; the step-by-step instructions for all this stuff will be outlined and explained when the time comes. We'll make sure of it.

What’s Changing?

We’re not just making changes to adapt—we’re making big improvements:

Streamlined Tiers:
Goodbye, five+ tiers. Hello, three clear options:

• Tier 1 (€? - Paper Knight): Base-level Maps, Access to The Fold.

• Tier 2 (€? - Paper Wizard): Base + Plus Maps, Access to The Fold+, Foundry VTT, and The Item Fold.

• Tier 3 (€? - Paper Hero): All the above, plus commercial use and exclusive bonuses and discounts.

We are still trying to gauge what monthly fee is regular and, most importantly, fair for our offer.

Introducing The Fold:
This is the BIGGEST upgrade we’ve ever made to how we deliver our content. Think of The Fold as your ultimate hub for everything Eightfold Paper. Gone are the days of cluttered downloads or outdated spreadsheets. With The Fold, you’ll have:

• All-in-One Access: Every single map we’ve ever created—searchable, filterable, and ready to download.

• A Seamless Experience: Log in with your Patreon account, and The Fold will automatically unlock content based on your tier.

• Smart Tools: Preview maps, sort by type, or download yearly bundles with just a click.

Reassessing Item Cards:
Our Item Cards haven’t been as popular as we’d hoped. We’re considering phasing them out and focusing on Foundry VTT content instead. All current cards will still be available in The Fold. But before we finalize this, we want your feedback!

Harsh Reality

Thank you for being part of this community and helping us grow. Honestly, we are pretty disappointed with needing to change things. Running Eightfold Paper has been a blessing, but it also requires much hard work. It feels like Patreon isn't making things any easier for us. We’re also nervous and excited to bring you these updates, and we’ll keep you informed every step of the way. We don't know if this is, for lack of better words, going to freaking destroy us or help us get back on track, but we are trying.

We hope that these changes will make your experience better. Ultimately, we're doing this for you and a love of TTRPG. We want to ensure that we don't just "adapt" to Patreon's whims; we want to take this as an opportunity to improve our offer further. This is the moment.
