THE FUN TIME GANG IS HERE! - Game of Thrones 2x10-2

I believe the true (meta) reason is that, according to the Director of Photography, it was a mistake in filming. They did a bad job at conveying the distance between the WW and Sam, which was supposed to have been too great for it to make out Sam. The turn towards the camera was actually for the audience, but it didn't come across that way.

I think that causes problems. They fail to understand that politics is less about what you want to happen and more about what you have to do to keep your job (and your head)

Oh, late double post; The White Walkers leave Sam alone for the same reasons they let that guy from the VEEERY beginning escape behind the wall; they were not a threat and plus the WW's had bigger fish to fry aka the 400 Night's Watch Men on top of that mountain.

Shae's loyalty to Tyrion is so heartwarming. I never liked Xaro or the warlock; not because they're bad characters, but because they're so hatable. The Faceless Men are among my favorite of the non-main organizations of the show. You could think its your brother or friend but then his face changes and stabs you. Luwin is another awesome minor character. He was like a grandfather to The Stark children. Bran and Rickon will be safe though; Osha is a scrapper and they have two Direwolves. Qhuron meant to get killed. He wants Jon to infiltrate them and by killing one of their top guys, the Wildlings may actually trust him.

It's interesting that the Starks are probably the most honorable house, but they also tend to chose emotions (such as love) over oaths/duty when it becomes a hard choice, and often suffer as a result. Ned Stark gave away his intentions to the Queen that he would reveal the truth of her incest and her children because he didn't want children to suffer/die because of him, but as a result it gave her the opportunity to turn the tables on him. He also signed a confession saying he was a traitor (which would stain the honor of his house) in order to save his daughters. His wife Cat chose to free Jamie Lannister to save her daughters, even if it meant going against the orders of her son/king, and knowing it was a terrible political move. And there was no guarantee that the Lannisters (especially the Lannisters) would give up her daughters after they got Jamie back. It also damaged her son's authority in the eyes of his men. Rob Stark swore an oath to marry a Frey daughter, which was a key part of the agreement they had, and was the reason the Freys joined him in the first place, but married a completely irrelevant woman (politically) because of love/not wanting to disgrace her after sleeping with her. John Snow (not officially a Stark but of Stark blood) almost broke his oath to the brotherhood several times to leave and help Rob, he also failed to kill Ygritte even though it was his duty to do so, and as a result his brothers were killed trying to find him. Just shows that in this story no one is without flaws, because there often isn't a right answer to the problems they face, so they just choose to do what is most important to them.

The "White Walkers" are called "Others" in the books (probably didn't use that designation because it would be too similar to something from the Lost series) and they they are seemingly sophisticated, with their own language, and incredibly beautiful, but strange and inhuman. There was actually a Night's Watch commander who apparently fell in love with one of them and took her for his queen of sorts. Quote from the Wiki: "With strange sorcery, he bound the Night's Watch brothers to his will, and ruled the Nightfort as his own castle for thirteen years with his corpse queen by his side. During the dark years of his reign, horrific atrocities were committed, of which tales are still told in the north. It was not until Brandon the Breaker, the King in the North, and Joramun, the King-Beyond-the-Wall, joined forces, that Night's King was brought down and the Night's Watch freed. After his fall, when it was discovered that Night's King had been making sacrifices to the Others, all records of him were destroyed, and his very name was forbidden and forgotten." The Night's King was presumed to be that particular Brandon Stark's brother, since the Starks have manned the walls for a long time. This incident was the reason why the Night's Watch is completely unfortified from the south - so that if something like this ever happens again, the Starks would be able to easily take back the various castles that the Night's Watch occupies.
