He just knew him as a local business owner that sponsored the police. He had Gus over for a BBQ once or twice and it cost him the job. Hank's situation looks so much worse.

However Walt does bring up valid points as what happens in 6 months when he's gone from Cancer and more importantly how does it look for Hank's reputation that he as a DEA member has a brother in law that runs a Meth empire with Gustavo Fring? Like there are tons of ramifications as Walt pointed out that will destroy the entire family.
