Excellent beginning! I didn't know anything about Pikachu, except what he looked like & that he's electric. I enjoyed learning of his early interactions with Ash!

So idk if anyone mentioned this but there is a theory ash is in a coma. It happened when he got that big shock and saw the golden bird. . Everything onward is just a dream his having in his coma state . That's why he never ages and other things that happened. It's cause it's all a coma dream

I can vividly remember the day I rented a VHS containing three episodes of the Pokemon show. From our local Video store when I was 5, in fact that may very well have been the first video I ever rented. Also while based on the games, the show is quite different from the experience of the Gameboy games were grew up on. For example Pikachu typically wasn't available as a starter. You had a choice of Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur (personally I chose Squirtle, lost my save and chose Charmander which I levelled up to a Level 100 Charizard), Pikachu didn't become a starter until Pokemon Yellow. Which was released after the success of the show, which gave you Pikachu as your default starter. And allowed you to find the other three in game. The part that is true to game though, is Professor Oak's grandson being a dick. Which is why a lot of people took to naming him embarrassing and dirty names. (Personally I just named him Gary, because I hated Gary in the show and wanted the honour of kicking his ass myself).

2024-09-09 20:03:35 +0000 UTCPokémon is actually the first anime that I remember watching, long before I knew what anime even was, the series is a lot of fun, and pretty much what made Pikachu the franchises mascot, only 151 Pokémon it's funny how small that seems now, we're currently sitting at over 1,025, and pretty much most of the key creators of the franchise are still involved near 30 years later, I really hope it can eek out a win at the next poll, it will feel like another One Piece like journey as you go, there's so many fantastic characters and places to see. 4Kids handled the dub for the first several seasons, so there are some questionable changes at times, but the voice actors make it fun, and I know you'll enjoy the puns.

This is a kids show after all lol.

I've been a fan since I was 7 (24 now) and I got a Game Boy advanced for my birthday with fire red, been collecting ever since (tho I did fall off the anime around gen 6), pokemon is just a huge influence and part of my life. But the Kanto and Johto part of the anime holds a special place in my heart cause it's what I would watch with my grandma, when I was a kid my grandma would record the episodes that played on her VHS machine along with looney toons and scooby doo, and every Friday she would pick me up from school and I'd spend the weekend with her watching the VHS tapes that she recorded or if she found VHS or DVDs of pokemon she would buy them. I have so many fond memories of this show.
