GOOSHER 100 VID from ANIMANGAFAN - Goku Black Arc Manga - GREAT Story!

For one thing, stuff like Xenoverse and other games don't tend to be used as canon material, if they did things would get complicated fast since multiple minds tend to make things easier to contradict each other. That's how marvel and DC got so complicated, this is an advantage a singular manga can have so long as they don't fall into the same trappings (which they have before). The other thing is that Cell's time machine is the one that creates new timelines. (Xenoverse uses a type of time machine that can make changes which makes it an improved version of Bulma's first-time machine) If they had changed coordinates they wouldn't have wound up where Trunks is, they would have created a new timeline at that specific time. They still wouldn't have landed in the exact same timeline they were trying to save. This is also why Trunks didn't try and use his again after finding out about the Multiverse aspect of time travel after he warned Goku about the android. So, in the end it doesn't work like the anime portrays it. Especially since the anime shows there was only one extra time ring created, it being very clear to be Trunks' timeline. That ring also disappears after Zeno erases it.

Isn't that "plot hole" completely addressed by the fact that you have to enter time co-ordinates in the machine? It's not like the TM is a two-way door; it has a complex control panel and is shown through games, specials, etc. to be able to go forwards and backwards to different times. It even traverses the entire story in Xenoverse or SDBH to name a few without any note from the author saying it can't...

I've actually been re-reading Super's manga recently for fun while waiting for the new anime to start, I actually mostly prefer the manga's interpretations of these arcs, I have some criticisms of Toyotaro as a mangaka, mostly to do with him overstuffing pages, but overall the manga is pretty fun, and you can see Toyotaro gets a lot more confident as a creator when he starts writing his own arcs after the anime ended, I wish him the best honestly, he confirmed a few days ago that the manga will return soon, I can't even imagine how much pressure he has to feel now that he's continuing the series without Toriyama guiding him.

Between the anime and manga of this arc, there are several improvements from the anime and downgrades from the anime. One of the big improvements was avoiding a plot hole the anime made. You see in the anime when Goku Black temporarily followed Trunks through time (something he didn't do in the manga, therefore preventing this issue) he destroyed Trunks' time machine preventing him from going back. To remedy this Bulma wanted to use the time machine Cell used to get to their time (the moss covered one). It works but by the rules of time travel set up in the Cell arc it should not. You see the time machines take you to a set time therefore creating a new timeline. They can then go back and forth between the one they used to be in and the one they created. Because of this Cell's time machine should take them to an earth where the androids AND Trunks are already dead and not the one our still alive Trunks needs to get to. Thankfully the manga avoids this by just not having Goku Black do that. Unfortunately, this is where the Manga's biggest downgrade makes itself known. Goku Black is nowhere near as interesting in the Manga as he is in the anime. In the anime Goku Black is Zamasu however his existence inside Goku's body means Goku's Saiyan traits bleed into his personality. He takes joy in taking damage from Trunks and Goku during their fights, he grows stronger due to using this body more giving a much simpler explanation on how Goku Black got so strong. (Zenkai's are something that were abandoned long ago and so there isn't enough justification to reason how they are suddenly useful again). Goku Black in the anime relishes gaining more power, it's this aspect that make Goku Black a variation of the Evil Goku idea and not just an evil guy in Goku's body like Ginyu one was. In the manga however Goku Black is just....Zamasu but with more power. Even if you like Zamasu (and I can see that, Goku Black being super crazy is entertaining in its own right) this is undoubtably a downgrade since you just get two of the same character rather than two distinct characters. Despite all the changes, the arc itself still suffers from writing problems. Deleting Trunks timeline is still utterly unsatisfying and just throwing him at another timeline (something the gods are apparently not supposed to do but consistency be damned) is still a bad ending to the arc. Vegitto (or Vegirot as the video actually showed funnily enough) is so short lived it doesn't even matter, not to mention this retcon (yes it's a retcon) makes Old Kai and Shin look incompetent which isn't good writing. Goku's hakai was cool...except it doesn't make sense due to the fact Goku has never seen Beerus do Hakai in the manga. Remember Goku wasn't present to see Beerus do it in the manga as opposed to the anime. I generally have a dislike of Goku being able to use such an OP technique anyway since it's an instant win technique and a Destruction Ki based technique which should make it harder to do but the not seeing the technique in action is the bigger issue. Both ways to keep fused Zamasu in the fight were interesting at least. In the anime Fuzed Zamasu lost his mortal body, but he was still immortal, so his consciousness allowed him to fuse with the universe itself. In the Manga since they are technique one person, they managed to stay fused but also duplicate. Sadly, even then both explanations are very finicky and don't really make sense. For anime it's because of the unknown nature of the immorality and the whole fusing with the universe. With Manga it's the fact they are only the same in mind, their bodies are not so the explanation is still not the best. There's also the persistent issue of connecting Shin's life with Beerus since Shin took up a VERY DANGEROUS mission in trying to stop the rebirth of Majin Buu. I doubt Beerus would be ok having someone who is connected to him like this go and do something that dangerous since his life would be on the line. This aspect stays in both versions, but it is the only conceivable way to get someone as strong as Beerus and the other gods out of Zamasu's way. Overall while I see why people find this arc interesting and entertaining, I personally can't identify with it due to the MANY writing problems that popped up in both versions of the arc. There's a reason this arc is both loved and despised by the fandom.

Revisiting the story - especially with the differences - was a lot of fun, but I REALLY enjoyed the artwork!

For me, the most interesting part was seeing Zamasu's return compared to the anime's. In the anime he somehow became the universe itself. So, I suppose you could say that Akira Toriyama wrote in that ultimately Zamasu would get comeback after getting cut in half and this time even more of a threat. But he left it vague as to how or why.
