I think boxing, kickboxing, and wrestling are all one Greco-Roman martial art split into three different sports. "You only call it an art so you seem more cultured." After doing Eastern and Western martial arts the only differences are the contexts the styles were made for.

I remember that fight… Good times; the early days of UFC!

Boxing's roots stem from combat in the Egyptians, Romans, and grew through other Mediterranean/European cultures. Modern sport boxing isn't made for competing against other sports; but that's like saying jiu-jutsu isn't a real martial art because you aren't allowed to punch in sport. The English and thus Americans only invented modern sport boxing. Most boxing techniques (i.e. hooks and clinches) stem from using weapons like knives and don't focus on kicks, etc. because of practical effectiveness. Most American MMA fighters still get their start boxing or wrestling today, why use a niche example from 30 years ago?

Looks like my favorite character has finally arrived - I love me some Jack action.

Boxing isn't really designed to go up against other fighting styles, it has way to many rules and restrictions. The first UFC had a great example of this with a professional boxer (Art Jimmerson) vs a jui-jutsu master (Royce Gracie). Once Gracie managed to tackle Art and get him on the ground so he could starting using submission moves it was over. That said, boxing still works great against your average fighter with no formal training.
