On one side, it's important to note how Jedi have been turning to the dark side so trust might be waning there. However, on the other end this is a product of the Jedi Order getting too involved in the Republic's politics. This may be done to appease the Senate which shows the Jedi order has gotten too involved if their willing to throw one of their own under the bus.
