HOBBITS COMING UP HUGE! - LOTR: Return Of The King, Part 2

What gets me most about the ride of the rohirrim is when they shout "Death!" as their war cry. I never knew what they were saying until I saw a youtube comment about it, but apparently in Rohan's culture, they saw death not as a burden to mankind (as opposed to beings like elves, who could theoretically live forever), but as a gift and a high honor. Sauron's ultimate tactic was striking fear in men because he knew they feared death. Though, when the Rohirrim were yelling before their charge, they weren't proclaiming that the orcs would die, but rather that they were freely embracing their immeinant deaths, and thus having no fear and defying Sauron. Hence, really why the orcs were so surprised when they charged and had no hesitation. They couldn't comprehend such a thing.

The Witch King is such a badass looking character. He scares me so badly, he'd fit right in with some Dark Souls bosses. I feel for Faramir, his father is such a cockhole. I mentioned he's been corrupted, but still... Poor Faramir :( My heart broke for Sam. Fuck Smeagol for what he did. The soldiers riding off to Osgiliath is also really sad since both the citizens and soldiers know they're riding to their deaths. Dickithor(Shout out to Jeremy Jauhns) is just squandering lives. When the orcs unleashed their arrows and it cuts to Denethor having blood from the meat he is eating flow from his mouth was symbolic as hell. Intended or not. "Put aside The Ranger; become who you were born to be." That line always gives me chills! Legolas actually shot Peter Jackson. :) Sam besting Shelob, The Spider is one of the most badass things he's ever done and he's done a lot of badass things! The Rohirrim charge is easily my favorite scene of this movie. Theoden rallying and hyping up his soldiers and the orcs shitting their pants as they come barreling at them. Such Epicness!

I'll always praise how if you pay attention during the battle scenes, you can see the Gondorian soldiers are fighting competently, they're just too greatly outnumbered Edit: At about 2:30:56 you can see 2 soldiers beating up orcs with their bare hands

Chill bud denethor isn't real ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ this is the first time I've seen the extended and a lot of the extra scenes that use cgi are pretty rough which kinda sucks cause the rest of the visuals are amazing. This would be such a bleek movie without Gimlis humor. The scenes of him under the mountain are hysterical. Gandalfs staff never broke in the books like it did here. And the roles were reversed as it was gandalf who confronts the witch king as he enters the city. It was just Peter Jackson saying it will look cool and build tension. Gandalf is much more powerful than any of the nazgul.

If you thought Sam was a true best friend here, wait til you get to the final part. Theres a line and a moment near the end of the movie that fully broke me. It was a shame Denethor turned out the way he did, but his death was for the best, he's been driven mad for far too long. "Your father loves you Faramir, he will remember it before the end", and he did, at least he was a bit of himself before he died. Speaking of his death, i don't know if you noticed through the scenes, but the tomb where they were burned was helluva distance away from the tip of the courtyard, this motherfucker ran out the building, across the bridge, onto the courtyard and all the way to its end while on fire, say what you will about him but he could handle pain As mentioned by many others, the Charge of the Rohirrim is, imo, bar none the best cinema moment in movie history. So much buildup, so much death, so much anxiety as Gandalf might've died a second time, and then they arrive with the dawn, just like they did in the last movie. From the music to the gutteral screams of the riders, everything was perfect, no other moment in movie history gets my blood pumping like that does

Itโ€™s extremely unlikely Iโ€™d ever have time to read the books.

So I've only seen the theatrical cut but I feel like they definitely give more shine to Merry and Eowyn in this which I'm all for one thing I was wondering even though I love these films there are some differences I wanted to point out but wanted to ask Curtis just to make sure you have no intention of ever reading the books right or audio listening because I might hold back if so personally for me fellowship was the toughest read of the series and the Silmarillion is my favorite I hope to any god Amazon never adapts it

Good stuff! ๐Ÿ˜

Interesting...

Theres a certain character in the next harry potter movie who is in competition with denethor for the most hated character award. Tells us which one you think is worse when you meet them lol

FantasiA

I always liked the song at the end of Two Towers gives me chills

Not trying to make any excuses for Denethor, but it's important to know that he didn't just randomly go crazy. He had one of those palantir. The black balls that Sarumon had and Pippin got obsessed with seeing at the beginning of the movie. Through it, Sauron fed Denethor signs and feelings of despair and hopelessness, and that played a big part in driving him mad. Also, about the song Pippin sang. That was actually the actor, Billy Boyd, that sang that. He also sang the credit song for the last Hobbit movie, and even though the Hobbit movies aren't as good, imo, the song was beautiful. Speaking of which, when you watch the last part of this, I highly recommend watching the first part of the credits. The song is beautiful, specifically references the end, and is accompanied by fantastic concept art for the characters.

These movies had a lot of extras in them. So many in fact that they ran out of men to ride the horses pretty early on and had to start using women in beards. If you look closely you can spot them scattered about Rohans army. I often joke that there where so many people involved in these films that you could throw a rock in New Zeeland and you would probably hit someone who at least knows someone who was in it. The behind the scenes for these are a fascinating watch filled with facts like these. One I love is that most of the scenes with Frodo and Sam climbing to Mordor where filmed in a local high school gym with a blue screen and a pile of rocks.

Now that you're about to wrap up, I highly recommend getting your hands on the extended box set . you can find it on amazon. It has hours and hours of behind the scenes..making of stuff... One of them for each movie is visiting every location they went to . Its an amazing watch.

Thatโ€™s really cool!

The charge of rohan into the orks is one of the greatest pieces of writing in fictional history. Some of tolkin's best work is in that 1 charge, and that's saying something. You can find the original narration on YouTube and I heavily recommend checking it out. Peter Jackson, the man directing the movie quizzed each extra on why the scene was most important, and anyone who got it wrong wasn't allowed to be part of the charge. so each and every one of the riders you see has studied the original source material and knows the importance of the scene, which makes it all the more powerful.

Come on, My Friend, you know I am UNABLE to be quiet for that long! ๐Ÿ˜

Spaz Boys Comedy

Pippin's song during the battle is so beautiful and touching ๐Ÿ˜ข Gandalf is technically dual wielding, since he fights with sword and staff ๐Ÿ˜… While I was watching with 'picture in picture mode', I didn't realize I accidentally paused your reaction and kept watching like 3 minutes before noticing. "Curtis has been quiet quite a while now, huh? ... Wait, fuck!" "The night is darkest right before the dawn." Fits perfectly for the scenes of the city being overrun; Gandalf&Pippin VS Witch King; and arrival of Rohan.
