I am fascinated by Smeagol, even though I'm aware he may be unpredictable! And I'm SO happy that we've got Gandalf back!

2023-08-25 22:48:34 +0000 UTCWhile I would never want to downplay Tolkien's writing, it should be noted that some of the scenes you praised in this one were actually film originals. In particular, pretty much every scene involving Arwen, Aragorn's Elf waifu, weren't in the books. Same, I believe, with the chaotic battle on the way to Helm's Deep, including Aragorn going over the cliff. The entire crew absolutely blew past my expectations for these movies and not a year goes by were I don't kill a day or two marathoning them.

2023-08-23 06:37:31 +0000 UTCFunny thing saying how badass gandalf is Ian McKellen ( the actor who plays gandalf) had said in an interview about one of the lotr games that he voiced gandalf for that he wished gandalf in the movies was more badass and had moves like in the game. I can't wait for part 2 and the return of the king. I was able to hold off for both parts for the first one but I couldn't wait this time.

2023-08-23 05:55:39 +0000 UTCHow many old doods can say they fought an ancient fire demon with a sword while free-falling XD I remember the audience cheering for the whole fight when my dad and I saw it in theaters. Frodo took a chance with Gollum/Smeagol, because they were starting to run low on food and they were not getting any further. That and he did pity him as Gollum was cursed by the ring aka its not his fault he became what he is. As Gandalf said in the last movie, Smeagol loves and hates himself and the ring. He went so insane he developed a second personality. 19:08 Legolas' line there has been memed, its actually kind of funny. =D I adore how Legolas got pissed off at Eomer for his jab at Gimli. Legolas and Gimli are broskis, despite their back and forths. Gandalf and Luffy both die and come back wearing all white. So Gandalf Gear 5th achieved? :P But yeah the big heads upstaris decided that Saruman was fired and Gandalf was to get a big promotion essentially. Regardless if Gollum had ulterior motives, pulling Frodo and Sam back from running at the gate saved their asses and the quest. He was 100% correct that they'd be caught, the ring seized, and then both of them killed. Killing Grima wouldn't have done anything. Saruman already knew what he needed to know. Grima would just be another dead man. With Theodred dead, this actually makes Eomer the rightful heir of Rohan, unless Theoden remarries and has another son. Also if I remember right, Eowyn and Eomer are the children of Theoden's sister, so his bloodline is effectively over. But yeah, seeing Theoden grieve over his kid rips me apart, especially in my older age.

Him and all the Five Wizards are Maiar, sort of demi-deities or angels, who were sent to Middle Earth in the guise of wizards to help the people and defend them against Sauron by Eru Iluviatar, the god of their world. Sauron is a Maiar as well, as was the Balrog, they just all vary wildly. One might be led to assume that because hes 'the White' now, that hes suddenly been given a boost in power to be like Saruman, but thats a bit of a common misconception. Their colors were assigned to them more as roles rather than a hierarchy of powerscaling, although all of them have somewhat equal powers, they are limited by Eru in how much of that power they can exert while on Middle Earth. Saruman was the White, head of the good forces against Sauron Gandalf was the Grey, since he was a wandering pilgrim, mixing with people, advising them and helping them where he went There is also Radagast, the Brown, who keeps watch over woodlands and animals, and is very attuned to nature Finally theres the two Blue wizards, who nobody knows much about because very little was (as far as we know intentionally) written about them. Gandalf was given a sort of job shift by Eru, since a wandering pilgrim was no longer necessary, but a leader of the forces of good against Sauron was since Saruman betrayed them, hence he is "Saruman as he should have been"

2023-08-22 23:22:46 +0000 UTCyou can probably see bits and pieces of Lord of the Rings religious parallels now that J R R Tolkien put in throughout the series, Tolkien himself said that "The Lord of The Rings is of course a fundamentally religious and Catholic work, unconsciously at first, but consciously in the revision", one of the obvious parallels is Gandalf being a Christ like figure resurrecting back from death, it's a bit too early to get into the details now, but there's three Jesus like figures in the films representing different aspects (like a holy trinity).

The moment when Aragorn kicked the orc helmet and fell screaming to his knees in anger at the supposed loss of Merry and Pippen, he actually fell to his knees screaming in pain because the actor just broke a toe or two with that kick. Peter Jackson decided that was a perfect take. Also, when the flag ripped from the pole in the wind and floated down wasn't intentional. The wind actually took it, and again they decided it was better that way.

Sam is one of my all time favorite characters and it will only become more apparent why. He truly is the best friend anyone could ask for. New Zealand has a lot of environmental protection laws that they had to follow when filming. They had to make sure that any set pieces on public lands were quickly removed, so as not to damage the landscape. The Capital of Rohan was built over a period of eleven months followed by three weeks of filming and then the set was immediately torn down. Because of this, scenes for more than one film are shot all at once in the same time span. This is one of the many reasons this whole trilogy was filmed at the same time.

2023-08-22 21:36:25 +0000 UTCIf you're wondering why Gandalf came back, in Middle Earth, Wizards are not just random magic users, they are actually serve diving beings (sort of angels) in keeping Middle Earth safe. So those beings decided Gandalf still had a mission to complete and sent him back, while also increasing his ranking among wizards. It also highlights how much bigger Saruman's betrayal was as he did not just betray Gandalf but his divine mission to protect the world.
