They retcon it MUCH later in an arc that we'll probably be at sometime around December or early next year.

2023-08-18 13:01:42 +0000 UTCLaxus is not a Dragonslayer in the sense that he inherits a Dragon's magic and abilities, but he's an artificial one since he does possess copied abilities based on a Thunder/Lightning Dragon. So technically Makarov is not entirely correct in saying he's not a dragon slayer. I agree with you on Ichiiya, he's got moments where he's amusing, but just as many where he's annoying. Still, for him as a character, he is still a decent dood who's only real flaw is his womanizer mentality. He discomforts people like Erza and Lucy, but he's also the mentor of Eve, Ren, and Hibiki aka The Boy Band, who all seem like decent doods too. It is a ponderance to wonder where Jellal will stand since his last act saved Erza from The lacrima blowing up. Natsu seemingly broke the control spell Ultear put on him, otherwise he wouldn't have saved Erza. But regardless, Jellal is back in play.
