WOW! This just gets better and better! I never imagined there would be this type of effective, brutal assaults on the feels!

I WATCHED THIS MOVE (EXTENDED VERSION) AT (HBO) MAX.

BRUTAL TO THE FEELS! - LOTR: Fellowship Of The Ring, Part 2

That's why Gandalf memes are from the first movie; because he dies. (too soon?)

V_VMat

That’s really cool!!

The world that Tolkien made has inspired so much. Remember that demonic servant in the butler suit that served the red queen In Restaurant to another world? Was on fire, with big wings. His name was Balrog.

Some guy named Chris

Lmao Imagine. Gandlaf dies to huge demon. Boromir dies to Uruk commander. Sam forgets he can't swim and drowns.

Tmini

If Sam had actually drowned at the end for no reason that would have been hilarious. Dumb writing, but hilarious

Jonathan

That ending sucker punched me! I didn’t think we were done yet! 😂

I loved the part at the end when you were begging for it not to be over aha. That's the power of these movies! My favourite movie of all time is Return of the King. I can't wait for you to get to it. It's truly a cinematic masterpiece like no other.

I think this is the first time I've seen the extended cut and I have watched this series dozens of times. None of the extra stuff seems out of place to the point it doesn't feel like a 4 hour movie. It's such a cool world that Tolkien built and the movies absolutely does it justice in bringing it alive. I'm actually surprised you didn't mention how great the visuals are, usually you tell us these things

Psychostalker

Wait multiple parts? Yeah, that fits.

Is this from J.R.R. cause it sounds like something fans came up with. It's hard to tell with cult classics since the Fandom tends to run wild with theories and "facts". Also Not sure I'd call confidence and proficiency a virtue that's why it sounds made up by fans to me.

Psychostalker

You have no idea how happy I am that you are enjoying these movies. They mean soo much to me. First, I just want to say that the scene between Frodo and Gandalf in the mines, has some of my favorite dialogue of anything ever: "Some that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can YOU give it to them Frodo? Do not be too eager to deal out death and judgement. Even the very wise cannot see all ends." Did you notice that Aragorn put on Boromir's bracers after he died? If you pay attention, you'll notice he has those for the rest of the movies. Boromir might have my favorite character arc of any of them, because he was flawed. He felt human. He felt relatable. And that makes his redemption and final sacrifice so much more impactful. It's a message to the audience. It's OK to be flawed person, but if you have the strength and will to set that aside to do what's right and be there for the people that need you, then you can die a hero.

One of my favorite things about LotR is each of the characters represents a personality/character trait that we can find in all of us. Each of the "good" characters represents different virtues: Aragorn = leadership, legolas = proficiency, gimli = confidence, Gandalf = wisdom, Frodo = courage, Sam = loyalty, Boromir = duty, and so on. And the "evil" characters are vices that need to be overcome: Sauron = domination, Saruman = corruption, Gollum = dependence/addiction, etc... And there's still SO MANY characters you haven't met yet that represent even more. Of course there's some overlap in the characters and they all have arcs that go much deeper than that.

FantasiA

"Right as they got to Mordor" Bro, one does not simply walk to Mordor. They aren't even close yet, they don't enter Mordor officially until the third movie. They're just so high up they can see it in the distance

Great story!

Those landscapes are amazing! It’d be SO cool to get to visit them!

I felt so bad for Bilbo. He knows the ring controlled him and he feels responsible for the danger Frodo is going into. He fears his own obsession of The Ring will lead to Frodo dying, if at least throwing him into terrible danger. On top of that, he still yearns for the ring. It's like a drug addiction you cannot eliminate, but only treat. I fi recall Rivendell is the best place for him to be since they're fantastic healers. 2:06:00 "I have no memory of this place" also became a semi-popular meme When my dad and I saw this in theaters and Gandalf fell, I was super sad and he was just sighing. He's a lot better than me at fighting back tears. When Aragorn knocked that blade away with his sword, that was not how they planned it, so he actually knocked away a knife beig thrown at him. It was pure accident, but made for a badass scene. Boromir's death has never not made me tear up. He felt terrible for what he tried to do to Frodo and he realized how terible The Ring is. But you saw the pile of Uruk-Hai corpses; dood took a good sum of the bastards down with him. He died a hero with honor. And Aragorn wearing his bracers is a sign of carrying on with his vow to protect Gondor. But The Fellowship is fractured; Gandalf and Boromir are dead, Sam and Frodo are going to Mordor on their own, Pip and Merry are captives, Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas are now hunting the Uruk-Hai to rescue them.

Lewd Angel pointed out some cool moments, Let me add a few from the Lore in case you're interested: - Gandalf only read half the runes on the Door to Moria, the full translation is: " The doors of Durin, Lord of Moria. Speak, friend, and enter. I, Narvi, made them. Celebrimbor of Hollen drew these signs." Celebrimbor was the elf lord who made the rings of power. - Gandalf was one of the Istari, 5 great wizards sent by the God of middle-earth (in a nutshell anyway) to safguard the land and its people. When he says "I am a servant of the secret fire" it is a warning to the Balrog that they are equal in strength and power. And that the demon WILL. NOT. PASS. - Of the three Elven rings of power, Nenya, Narya and Vilya (Elvish for Water, Fire and Air respectively). Galadriel wields Nenya, Elrond of Riven-dale wields Vilya and Gandalf wields Narya. - The orcs that killed Boromir (Sean Bean) were called Uruk-Hai. A unique sub-spieces created by Saruman, The Uruk-Hai have no concept of pain or fatuge, can trvelel in sunlight that their lesser kin cannot, are utterly fearless and can travel crazy distances without stoping and still be combat effective at the end. Bad dudes. And from part one, because I'm slow: - 16 (give or take) years pass between when Bilbo leaves the Shire and when Gandalf returns to tell Frodo about the one ring. The movie doesn't specify this. - The innkeeper of "The Prancing Pony" was given a letter by Gandalf to give to Frodo. The letter would warn Frodo that the ring-wraiths were after him, to seek a man named "Strider" and to head to Riven-dale. The innkeeper forgot to deliver this letter. Fuck this guy. -After the party meets Arwen for the first time she says she doesn't know where 4 of the 9 Wraiths are. Those 4 had a nasty run in with Gandalf, because at this point he had escaped Saruman's tower and was trying to find Frodo. I'll have more for the other movies if you're interested. A Youtuber named "Nerd of the rings" is my source and does a way better job then me. Check him out BUT ONLY AFTER YOU FINISH THE TRILOGY, NOT BEFORE. Spoilers.

StylishJack

you can actually visit a lot of the nature scenery from Lord of the Rings in real life, the trilogy was filmed on location in New Zealand, and there's a replica of parts of the shire and its bar there as well. Tolkien had an absolutely massive impact on the fantasy genre both in creating new concepts and redefining old ones, Mithril for example is a fantasy metal he made up that's now become a staple in fantasy, you'll see it all over the place in fantasy games like Final Fantasy, Xenoblade, Dragon Quest as this end game super powerful metal for weapons and armour. Another example is goblins elves and dwarves, those existed long before him in old European folklore and myth, but the current tropes and interpretations of them in fiction are basically based off of his versions now. He created this fully fleshed out living breathing world with so much depth and history to it, he invented multiple languages, cultures, and nations with intertwining histories for Middle Earth so it's one of the most real feeling fantasy worlds you'll ever see.

Can’t wait for you to watch the next movie!

This was like experiencing this for the first time all over. My dad was around your age when we sat down to watch these for the first time. He wasn’t into fantasy and had never had any interest in these movies. One day we were shopping and saw them in a bin for 5$ a piece and my dad loves cheap movies, so since none of us had seen them we bought the first two to see if we’d like them. Long story short we were almost done with the second one and we were practically in a panic over not having the third one. The overwhelming sentiment for us was “I didn’t expect it to be this great, why did it take us so long to see this?” This movie was over four hours long and you were still surprised when it was over. That's how these movies are though, they suck you in and you don’t want them to end.

Fritz

I had a feeling the deaths of Gandalf and Boromir would hit you hard, trust me it doesn't get much easier on rewatches. I also love your reaction to the ending, you've made similar reactions before when anime episodes end but never to that intensity, the movies really pull you into the world, its why marathons of the trilogy are so popular, its easy to lose 8 hours just watching the entire trilogy top to bottom, and thats not even accounting the Hobbit movies! Because my obsessed brain loves details, heres a few cool bits about certain scenes -You can see Legolas had no problem walking on snow when they were going through the mountain pass, and everyone else was wading through it. Elves are light and have very good balance. -Gandalf was also wearing one of the rings of power, Narya, the elven ring of Fire, hence why he says hes the "Wielder of the flame of Anor" -Galadriel was testing both herself and the Ring, the ring answers only to Sauron but it has its own will, she was trying to see if she could convince it to switch to obeying her, both to see if it would accept her and if she'd be really willing to accept it. Thankfully, she never had to find out the latter as the ring rejected her completely. -After he died, you can see Aragorn putting on Boromirs arm bracers in memory of him

Goobert

Yea, noble characters dying in defense of others really hits hard for me!

Spaz Boys Comedy

Yikes!

Spaz Boys Comedy

That was rough!!

Spaz Boys Comedy

Yeah i was disappointed, imagine not commenting something like 'holy crap' about those stunning visuals, what a shame

Goobert

just finished the reaction.. shocked you didnt mention how amazing the visuals were...........i'll wait lol

Lyonheart86(BryonH)

I knew that scene would be tough for you. I've noticed you're hit hard by deaths of immoral characters who at the very end do something heroic and apologise for their ways.

Darryl Robson

Boromir was truly a great and powerful warrior ... however his strength was not enough to overcome the cruse of Sean Bean

Lachlan Ferrand

Trust me Curtis the feels are only going to get stronger

Lachlan Ferrand

Some fun trivia, the actor who plays Saruman (the white wizard who betrayed Gandalf) is Christopher Lee, and he played Count Dooku in the Star Wars movies (including the animated Clone Wars movie you did a reaction to). He was replaced by a different voice actor in the clone wars TV show but they did a great job emulating him.

J Johnson

Spoilers for this part in case you haven’t seen it yet Boromir was my favorite character when I watched the movie the first time, so his death always sticks with me even till today. Seeing that thumbnail shattered my heart.
