It really does feel like Luffy is just messing with Kaido and getting a feel for Gear 5. Kaido is literally his guinea pig Xd. Still I am glad Kaido didn't go out in a squash, but you can tell he's close to his limit.

2023-08-16 18:51:19 +0000 UTCWhich is something that bothers me greatly, Kaido has been amped up as 'the most powerful being in the world', 'if its 1 on 1, Kaido will win', now apparently someone who is whipping the ever living hell out of Kaido can't hang with people on supposedly the same, or slightly lower level, as him? Blackbeard i can understand to a POINT, even though his weaknesses are severe, but im really curious what makes Shanks so powerful, and more to the point why are they supposedly so above Luffy. Quite frankly im worried One Piece is gonna run into the Dragon Ball curse, where by increasing powerlevels for the sake of building up antagonists ends up destroying narrative and scaling consistency, its already happened quite a bit as the series went on despite what 90% of fans don't want to admit, especially post-timeskip, hopefully it evens out as we head into the final arc(s)

Luffy started from the bottom now he’s here! Look how far our captain has come! I would say Luffy has the potential to be as strong as Goku and Saitama when using his Gear 5 cartoon powers! I am so in love with this transformation!

If he wants muscle he can have more muscle, if he wants to be bigger he can become a giant, if he wants speed then he can have Looney Tunes speed. Oda showed some of his notes about Gear 5 and stated the following: “The more Luffy laughs, the stronger Gear 5 becomes” So in essence, Luffy’s innocence and childlike nature has resulted in the ultimate powerup

2023-08-16 13:08:00 +0000 UTCWhen Gear 5 first dropped there was a worry that this powerup would be like many other Shonen pinnacle powerups where the protag is possessed or being aided by some 3rd party that's been alluded to in the story or something else. The idea here being that Joyboy has taken over Luffy's body during gear 5. But Oda said no with Luffy saying his name and with Zunesha saying that it's almost as IF Joyboy was there. So this is still our Luffy with his own power and using it how he wants to use it.

We're up to the finale of the arc and i can't wait to see how it wraps up. Luffys fruit is confusing as fuck too, im with Kaido on this one, i mean Mythical zoans are weird to begin with but none let you affect the environment, much less other peoples BODIES. I was iffy with Katakuri's 'special' Paramecia that let him change his form like a Logia, Luffys fruit is breaking all the rules now, be interesting to see more explanation on it

2023-08-16 13:02:38 +0000 UTCAnother reason can be that they don't want to draw attention to the fruit and if they kill Luffy then the fruit disappears again. they are walking a fine line between cautious and dumb and it's so thin you can't see the transition. The fruit was stolen by shanks and they said nope to pissing off that beast and then Luffy appears out of nowhere years later as an upstart pirate who happens to be the son of Dragon and therefore the grandson of Garp. Might as well ride the wave out rather than cause a shit storm. Too bad for them a shit storm still came their way. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

2023-08-16 12:36:26 +0000 UTCIt does seem a bit dumb that the heads of the world government knew that the Gum Gum Fruit has the potential to lead to Joy Boy, but let Luffy run around for so long even after knowing he had ate it (if they had sent CP0 or an Admiral after him early in his career he wouldn't have stood a chance). Hell, he actually ran into Kuzan (Ice fruit admiral) by accident and got frozen instantly. If Kuzan had instructions to kill/capture him then it would have been over. A possible explanation is that it's been like 800 years since Joy Boy appeared so they just assumed no one could awaken him properly, but still, seems sloppy on their part.
