MY PRECIOUS - Lord of the Rings Fellowship of the Ring, Part 1

Comments

one of my favorite parts from this movie was where gandalf hits his head on bilbo's tiny door frame, and it wasn't even in the script lol. it happened on accident and peter jackson decided to leave it in because Ian McKellen handled the mishap so naturally it actually made the scene better.

Comment is couple of days late, but I didn't have time to watch before now; 1:14:25 I would say the ring ghosts have a couple thousand years more experience than the hobbits. 1:24:44 The actress is Liv Tyler

Just for context, Gandalf and Saruman are actually the same type of being as Sauron. They are called Maiar, which are comparable to lesser angels. Sauron is one of the more powerful Maiar. Sauron’s master, Morgoth, was the first Dark Lord. Morgoth was part of a group of beings called the Ainur, who were more akin to archangels or gods. Morgoth fell from grace before the world was even created. Tolkien illustrated the creation of the world as a great music conducted by Eru Ilúvatar (God), but Morgoth’s music was discordant and out of tune. He cause havoc in Middle Earth, going so far as to snuff out the light of the two great trees which lit up the world before the sun and moon existed. He makes Sauron look like a little bitch! Thankfully, Morgoth was defeated in the first age. (You might have noticed Legolas call the the monster in Moria a “Balrog of Morgoth”. Balrogs were once powerful Maiar just like Sauron, though still lesser than Sauron. So back to Gandalf. In order to guide the peoples of middle earth, the Valar who were the greatest of the Ainur (think of them as the 12 Olympians), sent a handful of Maiar to earth, known as the Istari or wizards. However, because of how powerful even lesser angelic beings are, the Valar limited their powers so that they cannot use their full strength. So basically, Gandalf is nowhere near his full power in the films. Because of the Christian nature of Lord Of The Rings, the wizards like Gandalf don’t wield magic like Dumbledore and other conventional wizards. Remember, he’s an angelic being.

I left a comment on the youtube video in which i promissed i'll watch it on patreon, to enjoy your full reaction. I keept it :)

almost had a stroke when I saw this, I am so excited to see you watch this trilogy. Also fun fact, the time between Gandalf leaving the Shire after Bilbo's party and when he returns to tell Frodo what he's learned is 17 YEARS. Gandalf spent 17 years trying to prove to himself that Bilbo's ring couldn't be the One Ring

Believe it or not, I also haven't seen the Matrix movies... Definitely in the future plans.

The nerds always come out to lore dump. He's only watched half of one movie guys. I know it's your religion but take a breath.

I was so excited to see this! As far as the Ring is concerned, you may have noticed the effect it has on people. Many compare the Ring to an allegory for sin. Another, non-religious way to look at it is as addiction, or really strong desire; selfishness. One thing to know about the Wizards is that they are akin to angels. Basically agents of the gods. Sauron is a being like that too. Basically Gandalf and Sauron are the same TYPE of being. That's why Gandalf had to warn Frodo that the ring would wield too much power through him. Gandalf and the other Wizards are on the Earth, sent by the gods to help the people of Middle Earth face Sauron. The White Wizard, Saruman, betrayed that mission. As for Boromir, the other human that you saw, who suggested using the ring against Sauron, and said "Gondor has no King". He is the son of the Steward (like a governor) of Gondor, which quite possibly was the greatest human Kingdom still in existence. It's also the closest kingdom to Mordor, and they constantly have to fight Sauron's forces there. So, when Boromir lectures them all on Mordor, and Sauron's forces, he has good reason to do so, because he lives with that threat constantly on his doorstep. Furthermore, his bitterness towards Aragorn (Strider) isn't entirely unjustified, as the line of Kings of Gondor (which Aragorn is heir to) went into exile many generations ago, and left Boromir's family in charge for several generations. I want to say more, but I don't want to overload you. All I'll say now is that I'm very excited to see the rest!

I am beyond happy to see you start this. LOTR made my childhood, i still remember screaming like a banshee when my uncle got me the extended editions on cassette for christmas when i was a kid, they're one of the most influential trilogies of all time, before as books and after as movies. And yes i did say cassette, these movies are from the early 2000s, and tbh their visuals and even CGI beat out 90% of the media made today Now im gonna apologize ahead of time because i may nerd out and lore dump some random side facts over the course of these reactions, because as great as the movies are, they only scratch the surface of the world Tolkein wrote about. For example you seemed a bit confused when Gandalf mentioned "the incident with the dragon" to Frodo on the cart, that's actually in reference to The Hobbit, which iirc was duology of books that take place 60 years before the events of the LOTR. You see one scene from it when Bilbo finds the ring. They've actually been made into a movie trilogy by the same director who made these movies as well, they're not regarded as great as the LOTR trilogy, mainly because of an overuse of CGI and the stretching of 2 books into 3 movies, but they're definitely worth a watch and very enjoyable, maybe that can be your next venture once you're done with these three. Also i think you confused Legolas with Boromir there near the end since you called him a problem? Legoland is the elf who was telling Boromir that Aragorn is the heir to the throne. Im very hyped to see you go through all of these, its about time for my yearly rewatch of the trilogy anyhow, might as well be with you

Lewd Angel

OMG yes. Hope pt 2 comes quickly, because I want to wait for both parts to drop before watching :D

You should rewatch the South Park Lord of The Rings episode, you’ll probably find it more amusing now with context to LOTR. As Cartman The Grand Wizard would say “Go ahead and play Harry Butthole Pussy Potter!”
