Oda realizing too late that he made Kaidou too strong for Luffy to defeat by Shonen standards. So, he decided to fuse Luffy with Bugs Bunny to level the playing field. :D

2023-08-09 17:40:46 +0000 UTC@The Abyssal Drink I’m calling it now but I think Gear 2-4 are some types of Zoan forms for the Human Human Nika fruit almost like Chopper and the Rumble balls. So this makes me wonder will at some point Gear 5 have a “hybrid form”? I think even where we are in the manga 🥚, Luffy’s Gear 5 has been barely scratched in what it can actually do. So I can see there being more layers to all of this and it will further explain past events that had already occurred with Luffy before Wano.

The person who directed on 1015 is going work on 1072. Basically this episode 1071 is a 8/10 and next episode is a 10/10. Hopefully we can watch it soon because Gear 5 Luffy fighting is amazing

2023-08-09 15:29:22 +0000 UTCThis might be a bit controversial (or maybe not, idk I don't keep up with what others say about series, I just enjoy it on my own outside what others say) but personally I don't think gear 5 translate well to animation, in the manga it's great cause you have them all as just frames so you can see all the silliness in its entirety while in the anime sometimes I felt the "cartoon" part felt like it was a bit hard to notice in some scenes, idk just how I felt about it.

Skypiea was my least liked arc in the series, this elevated it for me in terms of importance, which is a miracle in and of itself because i really felt it was a slog. Everything from the Looney Toons animation, to the reveal, to the designs, to the soundtrack, everything about this form is incredible! I love how this form doesn't reflect Gears 2-4, but is makes Luffy a goofball like a Tom and Jerry cartoon, its very unique. I will say however, there is a 'but' in this lil essay of a comment. The episode itself, in its entirety? Kinda mid, for me personally. Now to contextualize this, you were privy to almost none of this (thank god if he exists, you remained unspoiled, you're a living miracle), but this was THE most hyped up episode in the entire series, it was spoiled by the official one piece youtube channel, it was on every social media platform, it was reported on the news, people have been making fanart of it since the manga chapter came out, it has an insane level of build up. But- it suffers from the same thing the entire anime suffers from, very poor pacing, drag out of scenes and repeats. A third of the episode was about Orochi and Hiyori, and lets be honest, Orochi should've died ages ago, we care about him and Hiyori about as much as we cared for Raizo vs Earlobes. Another third were outright replayed scenes and animations. To put it in the words of a youtuber i watch: "They took what could've been the single best episode in the entire series, and basically watered the experience down into a series of peaks and valleys". And i get it, you gotta give your animators room to breathe and keep the episodes up to a certain timeframe, but for THIS one? I expected more. Now granted, i know you don't watch previews usually with the exception here, so what i'm really hyped for is 1072. With all distractions out of the way i feel the next episode is truly going to live up to the hype that 1071 built up, and as a weekly episode watcher i am once again left biting my own nails off in anticipation

2023-08-09 14:27:51 +0000 UTCIt's great that you enjoyed this. There were plenty of vocal haters when the chapter of this episode first dropped and there were plenty when this episode dropped. But to hear you say it's perfect is just the cherry on top. We're talking about Luffy, a man who in his first big fight, against Arlong, planted his feet into concrete to spin a seacow and throw it far off into the ocean only for Arlong to throw Luffy underwater when he was unsurprisingly stuck. Every fight he's in gets a little silly at times, but now we have the perfect thing for it. Gear 5! Also, this means the Gum Gum fruit isn't a paramecia which is the catch all category for devil fruits. He's a Zoan. Zoan's transform into the animal of the fruit, but a human can't transform into a human... But a Mythical variant can. We've seen one other mythical human human fruit and that's Sengoku, the previous fleet admiral, using the Buddha model. Now there's Nika, the Sun God. Keep in mind Zoan's have better regeneration than others and so are hard to keep down if they get the chance to recover and Luffy has done this multiple times, but fandom just dismissed it as main character thing like what Goku and Naruto do but this explains his quick recoveries from eating. Gear 5, and I swear this isn't a spoiler as I thought of it as soon as the chapter dropped, explains all of Luffy's other gears. Luffy can dope himself by pumping his blood in gear 2 which makes sense but still a bit odd as getting his blood pumping that hard would take some effort (I know how he does it but blood circulation is a heart thing not a leg or arm thing). Again though, not too strange. Gear 3 on the other hand makes no sense. He inflates the bones in his hand and then transfers the inflation to other body parts via his bones. I don't know if you know this but bones aren't connected like that. Gear 4 lets him heavily alter the trajectory of his attacks and even speed them up if in Snakeman and the stretching seems to have no limit. I thought this was maybe his haki control, but a rubber body shouldn't be able to alter like that. But Gear 5 explains what he's doing. If he wants faster pumping blood he's got it. If he wants to grow his body he's got it. If he wants to alter the way his body moves for an attack he's got it. Gears 2-4 are, essentially, pseudo forms of gear 5. I won't say more on why cause the coming episodes will answer those questions and others. There's still so much more to see and the ride has only begun. The ride does however begin upsidedown... in a tunnel... on the moon... which is also laughing... and you are positive you shouldn't have eaten but you got on anyway...

So why did Shanks lie to Luffy when he ate the Gum Gum fruit? This makes me very suspicious about Shanks because he probably knew the truth! I hope Shanks is not pulling an Aizen and trying to slowly be plan things like it’s 4D Chess!

The citizens there supposedly worshipped Nika, long before Enel turned up and claimed to be their god. During the climax of Luffy vs Enel, they all start praying for Enel to be defeated and their lives to be saved. Turns out, in a way, Nika heard them.

Like Goku, Ichigo, Gon etc But with Gear 5 this transformation is the complete opposite and makes you laugh and smile. And I think that is perfect since that encapsulates Luffy as a person. There is a ton of debate online that Gear 5 is as iconic as Goku’s Super Saiyan. And I have to say that they are both good. But in my opinion Gear 5 is the Modern Era Super Saiyan

I've been excited for you to see this for a while and have a lot to say lol Luffy was dead and his heartbeat started back up as the Drums of Liberation 🥁🥁🥁 It was done perfectly with the OST in the background. Sanji's observation haki is on point as always. I love Gear 5. It's exactly what I expected from reading the manga. It's rubber hose animation which is so fitting for someone who has been depicted as a "rubber man" this whole time. It essentially breaks the concept of what traditional anime power ups are. Instead of becoming extra serious and showing Luffy as this "badass main character with super strong punches"... he's goofy, laughing, joking around, maniacal, and somewhat creepy. He can literally do anything just like a cartoon (Luffy Toons!). I love that his awakened ability doesn't just affect his surroundings, but the people he touches as well. He turned Kaido into a cartoon lol that's an Emporer he's throwing around nonchalantly like that 😂 Oda said in an interview he didn't want Gear 5 to be super serious since he believes battle mangas have too many expectations for that, and he isn't a fan of it. He never wanted One Piece to be serious in that way and knew he'd be taking a big risk since some fans may dislike Luffy's form. But Luffy IS Joyboy and it brings you joy when you watch/read it. IMO it's a great concept and what sets it apart from other manga. The foreshadowing for Gear 5 goes back to Skypiea (which is crazy in real time since Skypiea began in 2002 in the manga/2003 in the anime). We've seen many nations and people throughout the show reference the Sun God, pray to the Sun God, and thank him, including the Giants of Elbaf during WCI. And there have been a lot of refrences to the sun in general. Luffy ate a mythical Zoan devil fruit and he is the "Sun God Nika" 🌞 the Elder Stars said Zoan fruits have a will of their own. That's a very important detail to keep in mind going forward.

If you look at Luffy, he's affecting the world around him (the ground is bouncing when he jumps on it like its rubber, the loony toon effects like eyes popping out are actually happening). Joy Boy's power is not just to make him stronger, it's literal complete freedom from rules, including rules of nature.
