i think you are downplaying it a lot, luffy has died several times, if not for outside help. Arlong was the first, death by drowning. Then Buggy, death by decapitation. Croc boy, buried under sand bleeding out. Moria, not death cursed to stay in the shadows forever. Magellan, death by poison. Akainu ,magma impalement. Dont get me wrong, he is tanky survivor, but hes got some lucky rolls, just lets agree on that :P
