i have a new game for you!! codes have been sent out by email. (sorry about the mojibake - i tried to send a bandage emoji 🩹 but mail merge killed it...)

i'm going to be submitting this game to blossom jam for spring themes but actually i created it under o2a2 requirements! (i'm not submitting to the o2a2 queer jam though because one of the organisers says they have publicly supported somebody who's posted stuff online to harass me so i want nothing to do with it πŸ’¦ but i already had my jam idea when i found this out so i made the game under the requirements anyway)

it was fun working under requirements & seeing how much i could do - i think the hardest bit was probably making sure the idea stayed under 1000 words, but i managed to have space left over!

here's the full breakdown:

i wanted to try showing just one side of a phone conversation like you're kind of just listening into something... like if you're outside & you hear somebody on the phone & you feel a bit curious about what the conversation is about but only hear half of it haha. i actually have the other half of the script written too, just it's not shown in the game!

technically i could have used 1 voice actor too so i thought about adding beeping tones for the text, but it felt a bit too busy so i just used bouncing sprites/screens to add a bit more motion to the game with the limited resources!

overall it was pretty fun putting all of this together... i don't know that i'd do it again but it was interesting to try. i plan on releasing the game publicly tomorrow!

Yee', I saw that!! Been listening to Indiepocalypse stuff, too, so I've been hearing a lot of chatter about it, pff... And gosh I guess it's been ages since you made something in PICO8 (even if for me I only played it back in September, pff.) Hope the next project you make with it is excellent, when the time comes!! BUT FOR NOW, YES, PLASTIC TAPE AND MARRON!!!

you're not misinterpreting - it feels like a little hack to cheat the game to use less words aha it's funny you mention pico8 because i just went to pico pico cafe on mon & felt really inspired... i want to make another pico8 game because it's just so nice having everything in its own little package! but after i'm done with plastic tape i'm planning on going back to working on my gb studio game first (marron) so pico8 will have to wait...

Looking forward to playing through it in a bit when I get the chance!! The concept of limiting yourself that hard, slightly similar to PICO8's limitations or a GB game's limitations, is really interesting!! And it's nice how much making a tiny game like that can get encouraged, regardless of the jam itself having some crap to it that made you not wanna submit to it. The 1k word limit is so impossible for me to imagine, though, pff... That's so few words!!! And I love writing dialogue!!! Regardless, though, it makes for an intriguing, concentrated result I suppose!! (Using the format of only hearing one side of a conversation sounds really clever and fun, though!! Basically doubles the "potential" word count, in a sense, pff... Unless I'm misinterpreting the description here!!) Hopefully folks in the Blossom Jam appreciate the heck out of the little game when it's published!!
