Jar Jar gave emergency powers to create the clone army to the Chancellor. This made Jar Jar indirectly responsible for the Clone Wars which is funny to think about.

While I can’t add to any Canon info about Jar Jar that hasn’t already been said, I can add a tid bit of fun history. There was a Meme Lore surrounding him saying that all of his antics and how he was able to go from a nothing to a Politician is that he was actually a secret Sith Lord (like The Emperor) but he was using his idiocy as a cover and used The Force to avoid any near death encounters and convince people to bring up closer to become The Head of The Senate. This MUST be true.

Another tidbit from the movies I'd like to point out. Senator Organa, the guy with Jar Jar this episode, would go on to become Leia's foster father later in the original trilogy, the ones you actually watched. And the planet he represents, Alderaan, is the one that the Death Star blows up in front of Leia in A New Hope so...not really a spoiler for an over 40 year old movie, but...yeah, that man does go boom in a few years lol

I don't hate Jar Jar Binks honestly, he's just a little annoying and eyerolling, he's just weak comedy relief, but people accuse him of being a racist stereotype, and all sorts of stupid things. He's proof though that George Lucas actually did listen to fan criticism though, he plays a semi big part in the first film, but after negative reception to the character his role was heavily reduced and was less slapstick in the second film, and barely existed in 3.
I have to address the behind the scenes thing as well, the backlash towards Jar Jar was way overblown, like seriously way overblown, it got ridiculously vicious towards his actor, he's talked about the media backlash before and how it affected him, he actually posted a picture showing the bridge were he nearly committed suicide, he has a son now and is doing better at least, he even got to play a Jedi in the new Mandalorian Star Wars show, but what happened with him and the kid who played Anakin in the first film is truly vile.

alright, so let me introduce you to the darth jarjar theory.
some people, including me, believe that jarjar was originally meant to be a much more important key character in the story. there are several "clues" inside and outside the series itself that point to that fact, yet lukas most likely got cold feet due to the fan backlash and jarja was replaced by dooku.
yes, you heard me right, jarjar was most likely meant to be what dooku is now, palpatines right hand man and maybe even the secret leader of the separatist. you can sort of tell by dooku just sort of appearing in the second movie. usually characters like him should have been introduced much sooner - be it in the movies, books, comics, games or anywhere else-, but there's absolutely no mention of him until he suddenly appears at the start of the second movie. It's almost as if he was a last minute addition to fill a void left by another character - jarajr in this case.
on top of that, there's also the case of jarjar's unusual acrobatic abilities, which none of the rest of his species display and is only matched by jedi and other force user, and his uncanny "luck", which allows him to survive most situation he honestly has no right to survive otherwise. however, as we learned from obi wan in episode 4: "there is no luck, only the force". does that mean is jarjar secretly using the force to manipulate things into his favour?
we also know that force users can manipulate the mind of others, and, curiously enough , whenever someone in epsideo 1 does or says something particular stupid or out of character, jarjar just so happens to be in the back, moving his mouth along with them, similar to the infamous "these aren't the droids you are looking for" scene. keep in mind, jarjar is not a real actor, so him being there and mouthing alongside the characters is 100% intended by the writers.
lastly, when it comes to shooting this movies, george has a philosophy he calls rhyming. this means that there are certain elements between each movie that are very similar, if not identical. for example and i need to spoil a little here, so skip to the end of the next paragraph if you want to avoid those.
both in episode 1 and 4 you have: a powerful desert orphan (anakin and luke), two jedis who go out to save a princess ( qui-gon and obiwan go to save padme and obi and luke go to save leia), the desert orphan flying a ship and destroying the enemies giant space station (anakin blows up the droid command centre and luke destroys the death star) and two jedis facing a dark side user with the older of the two dying (qui-gon and obi fight a certain character and qui-gon dies, obi and luke confront vader and obi dies).
these similarities are very much intentional, so, with that knowledge, the question arises: "where was the parallel in episode 2 to one of movies most infamous scenes, episode 5's darth vader reveal?". the scene that recontextualizes one of the main characters, forcing you to see them in a completely different light and hugely effects things going forward. that scene just doesn't exist in episode 2. however, now imagin jarjar actually being a villain. the loveable goofball of the group, who constantly gets into trouble with his clumsiness, being revealed to be the evil mastermind who manipulated everyone from behind the scenes? now, that would have been a reveal on par with the darth vader one.
there's more, but i can't get into that without spoiling, but as you might tell, i'm farily convinced that jarjar was indeed originally meant to be evil, but due to how much people hated him, he was replaced by the much more credible threat of dooku. shame really, i would have loved to see the version where jarjar was revealed to be evil all along. that certainly would have been a spectacle.

Jar Jar…not the most pleasant character but George liked him enough to keep him around. He was meant for the kids as a goofy character to make them laugh but collectively most people don’t like him.

Jar Jar Binks was sort of a controversial figure in the Star Wars community. He was introduced in the prequel trilogy and meant to be a funny sidekick kind of like R2D2 and 3CPO were in the original series, but he was basically just an idiot who did dumb stuff and caused trouble for everyone. He also had extreme plot armor and would never die despite getting himself into deadly situations and having no combat skills. He ended up failing upwards as well, getting positions of authority just because he was associated with the main characters. A lot of the community hated him just because he sort of brought the collective IQ of the Star Wars universe down haha.
There were theories that he was was actually meant to be a Yoda type character (playing dumb but actually a mastermind hiding his identity) but either that wasn't the case or Lucas changed his mind on that.
