planning a week 1 steam release post
Added 2021-09-09 22:45:26 +0000 UTCso i plan on making a week 1 steam release post like i did for itch.io (here!) after the steam release of A YEAR OF SPRINGS & wanted to check with you all if there's any information specifically that you'd be interested in seeing! i feel like seeing the difference in sales for steam/itch.io could be interesting info for small devs so i wanted to make it public (though i'm going to double check & make sure that it's ok to share exact sale info from steam because i'm not sure...)
so far i'm planning on including
- week 1 sales numbers
- key activation numbers
- wishlist numbers at the time of launch
- description of what i did to promote (send press release &c.)
but if there's anything else specific you would be interested in seeing let me know ๐

Oh no, I hadn't thought about this - although itch always felt like a nicer place so I'm not exactly surprised... :( I hope you're doing ok, and... surviving the hate. This is horrible, and definitely shouldn't happen, and, and, humans can be terrible and this makes me really mad and you don't deserve any of this. Your kind, inclusive games mean a lot, and... I, I don't know how to react, but, take care. We're here.

2021-09-12 16:24:37 +0000 UTCoh drat i wasn't counting tweets after the itch release so i can't compare to the steam release (i also don't know how to count tweets that aren't from me) i have the 1week tweet activity numbers though, so i can compare the tweets i made during the itch release to the ones for the steam release. i think there's a definite difference in community reaction - i mentioned this before for my itch post, but from itch i practically never get homophobic or transphobic comments, but i definitely get reviews on steam and google play which are. even though they're still few in number, because there are just -more people- on steam & google play, the amount of hateful reviews also increases. the audiences from steam & google play also seem more likely to spill out from their stores to contact me directly with harassment. (i am basing this on the fact that i seem to get the most hate for one night, hot springs and a tavern for tea. the former is the only game i have on steam currently & the latter is my most popular game on google play.)

2021-09-10 23:04:01 +0000 UTCIt's a somewhat fraught topic and is hard to gauge but I would be interested in seeing if there is any difference in community reaction between steam and itch given the effects of steam having a much larger but also more toxic userbase than itch. Also curious if there are any spillover effects in other social media (e.g. did the game get more tweets following the steam release even though it had been out on itch for a while previously)

2021-09-10 05:20:33 +0000 UTCthe text i've input is all from a translator (the same one who did the games) so that's a bit odd! if it's not too much trouble, would you mind sending the parts that sound automated so i can check with the translator?

2021-09-10 05:18:51 +0000 UTCSteam page translations. Are these automated or do you have to add them manually? German is mostly good, but there are still parts that sound like an automated translation.
