They're not as deadly as you might think even though they do technically eat the brain of their victims, BUT they don't kill their victims since they actually prefer to devour emotions.
Normally, they'll have a tentacle (tentacle cock is the best~) that invades the ear of their victim. While sucking the brain out, they also pump in a substance that replaces the brain and enhances the emotions generated by the victim while also giving the mind flayer complete control over their new...let's call them a pet rather than a victim~ Furthermore, the entire process is entirely painless, in fact, it actually gives the "pet" overwhelming pleasure~
Torremoe, in particular, usually waits to do this until after their target betrays someone on their own free will since the emotions generated by natural betrayal are much more delicious than influenced betrayal~
