Description: Rayne, Laura and Trisha find the perfect subjects for their show in the audience...their unsuspecting friends.
“Well then,” Rayne started “all we need to do is simply…”
“Pick who's next!” all three girls echoed in unison, finishing Rayne’s sentence. On cue, they began to move offstage and down the stairs into the audience. All eyes were on the three young women as they made their way through the room full of people, as everyone sat on the edge of their seats...watching and wondering who the next victims would be.
Of course, their friends had a good idea of just what was about to happen. “They’re moving right for us…aren’t they?” Carly asked, glancing around nervously.
“Looks like!” Christine responded with a smile. She seemed to be the only one who was actually quite eager to see if she could be hypnotized. Unfortunately for her, our three hypnotists already knew the answer to that question.
The group of young ladies watched nervously as their friends slowly moved up the aisle towards them. Klair’s book rose just a bit higher in an attempt to cover her face, while her body slid down in her chair and attempted to hide behind the pillar in front of her. But it was too late, the hypnotists had already seen her…and she was on their list of targets.
As the three hypnotists got closer to their friends, they started to split up. Rayne moved to the left, towards Jennifer, Lindsey and Eve, while Laura and Trisha headed over to the larger group who were seated across the aisle from them. Trisha stayed in the aisle but moved directly next to Jackie as Laura wiggled between the rows and came to a stop directly in front of Cheyenne. She leaned on the chair in front of her to balance herself, much to the enjoyment of the young man sitting next to Cheyenne, who was busy admiring the view to wonder what Laura had planned for the poor girl seated next to him.
The audience was silent for several long moments until Rayne finally spoke up. “This is a lovely necklace…” she said as she leaned in and slid her finger along the gold chain around Eve’s neck. At its end was a pressed gold charm in the shape of a leaf. “May I see it for a moment, please?” the young redhead asked with a smile.
“Sure…” Eve said hesitantly, more embarrassed to be the center of attention than anything. She did her best to block out the prying eyes of the audience as she unclasped the chain and handed the necklace to Rayne.
Rayne held up the necklace to examine it, more for the audience’s benefit than her own, before she finally lowered the leaf to be at eye level with Eve. “It’s very pretty…” she said as her voice dropped several octaves, becoming deeper and more soothing. “It reminds me of a cool…calm…fall day. The kind of day where you can simply…sit outside, and just watch the leaves fall from the trees…one by one, just falling and floating, swirling this way and that way, back and forth in the breeze.” Rayne had started to swing the pendant from side to side in front of Eve’s eyes, and the confused young woman couldn’t help but naturally follow the pendant as it swayed back and forth in front of her.
“You know those kinds of days…the kind where you can just…imagine the wind, softly blowing through your hair…the feel of the sun, warm on your skin. The slight feel of the air, cool, and crisp as you inhale…and relax. Relax as you watch the leaves, slowly fall…one by one now miss. Seeing the leaf in front of you as it sways from side to side. Back and forth…slowly…gently…drifting down…down…down. All the way down, drifting deeper, and deeper down as the leaves simply swirl from side to side in front of you now…”
Rayne watched closely as Eve’s eyes seemed to be almost magnetically pulled to the pendant that was swinging before her, and with every word that Rayne said her eyelids would sink down, bit by bit. Not at the same time, mind you. First the left would flutter, almost as if she had a twitch, but soon it would pass, leaving one eyelid just a bit lower than the other. Next she would blink, but as she opened her eyes, the right eyelid would never make it quite as far open as it had been. Little by little her eyes were closing, visibly unfocusing as the pendant continued to sway back and forth.
“It’s so relaxing here, miss…” Rayne said in a very soothing, tender voice. “As you just let everything relax, and let go...as you allow yourself to sink, and slip away…deeper and deeper…feeling your muscles loosening and relaxing, as you just enjoy the feeling…of watching the leaves sway from side to side. As you gently…drift off…to sleep.”
Eve’s eyes had lost focus long before Rayne told her to sleep. Her left eye was completely dilated and unable to focus on anything, while her right eye was locked on the leaf, but had began to flutter and water as she watched it sway from side to side. Eve never noticed how much her shoulders had begun to sink and sag. Never realized that her left hand had slid off of her lap and landed against Lindsey’s leg. She was simply enjoying how relaxing it was to watch the leaves…slowly fall. She heard the word ‘sleep’ echo in her mind, and it was as if her body had been given permission to do what it had wanted all along. The word had barely left Rayne’s lips as her eyes slammed shut, jaw hanging open softly as her head bobbed for a moment. Finally, all of the muscles in her neck relaxed as her head fell to her chest. The rest of her body slid down in her chair as the muscles relaxed even more, leaving her deeply asleep...and deeply hypnotized.
Lindsey was in shock as she watched the girl sitting next to her go completely limp in her chair, unaware of everything around her. She had a million questions flying through her mind, but none of them had fully formulated yet. Of course she wasn’t even sure who could give her the answers she so desperately needed at this point. Once she looked up at the young woman standing over the newly hypnotized Eve, however, who gave her a devious wink as their eyes met, she knew she should keep her questions to herself…for now.
The audience was too stunned and captivated to respond to the scene before them. They had seen Rayne hypnotize Trisha and Laura onstage, but it was all just an act...wasn’t it? Seeing Eve slip under so easily, without even realizing it was happening to her, had captured the attention of everyone there...including the girls who happened to know the hypnotists. None of them remembered their own hypnotic encounters with these same girls, or realized that they had slipped under just as easily as Eve. It was all completely new to them.
Jackie, who had been intently watching Eve as she slipped under Rayne’s spell, was caught off guard as she heard Trisha’s voice next to her. “Did you enjoy watching that?”
Jackie’s face turned beet red as she looked up at her friend and nodded, embarrassed. “Good.” said Trisha with a smile as she held out her hand for Jackie to shake. “Welcome to the show…miss?” Trisha asked.
Rather than making the audience feel as if the girls had all been planted in the audience, our three lovely hypnotists had taken the liberty to program their unsuspecting friends to pretend as if they had never met. It made their selections feel more random, even though having plants in the audience is actually a common stage technique. The more you know!
Jackie tried her best to hide a smile as she extended her hand toward Trisha’s, intending to respond by telling the hypnotist, and the audience, her name. Trisha, however, had other plans, and took the initiative before their hands were even able to touch. Instead of taking Jackie’s hand, she grabbed her wrist and skillfully twisted it so the palm of Jackie’s hand ended up directly in front of her eyes.
“Find a spot on your palm…” Trisha commanded. “Let that spot become your whole world…your eyes can’t look away from that spot. That one singular spot on your hand that you probably never knew was there…is now completely and totally your world…you can’t help but focus completely…and totally now.”
Jackie gasped as her palm appeared directly in front of her face, and couldn’t help but focus on a small spot where one of the creases in her palm branched out in the shape of a Y. She had probably seen it before but never paid it any attention. Now, however, she was completely transfixed on this tiny little feature. It happened so quickly that she didn’t have time to process what was happening, her mind was moving too fast to take in all the details of her hand. The rest of the room, all of the eyes that were fixed on her, had faded away…even her devious friend, who was about to clear the rest of those pesky thoughts from her mind.
Trisha smiled as she moved her friend’s hand closer to her eyes. “It fills your mind…it’s all you can think about…just see it getting closer and closer.” she said, moving her hand close enough for Jackie to be touching her face. The moment contact was made, Trisha clasped her free hand on the back of Jackie’s head, holding it between her hands as she quickly jerked the unsuspecting woman's head backwards, giving her the simple command to “Sleep!”
Jackie’s entire world shifted in an instant. Just a moment ago, her mind had been intently went focused on the tiny little ‘Y’ feature of her palm, then wondering why her head was being grabbed, before it finally latched on to a word...no, a command...that seemed important. But she never figured out what that command was. Instead, her entire body slumped helplessly into the chair, as her head became too heavy to hold up any longer. She was so grateful that her friend was holding her head… and finally, everything else faded away. Forgotten was the audience, the show, the tiny feature in her hand, even her friend who was standing in front of her, all seemed a million miles away as she sank into a deep hypnotic sleep. As Trisha released her hold on Jackie, the same hand that she had used to hypnotize her fell limp at her side as it dangled gently in the aisle. The movement caused her body to shift just enough for her lovely face to rest on her shoulder.
By now the audience had begun to cheer and clap as the shock of what they had just seen began to settle. The group of girls that had just seen two of their friends end up completely hypnotized within a matter of moments exchanged nervous glances with one another. Christine and Carly both giggled as Klaire sank even deeper into her chair, trying to figure out if she could manage some kind of escape without making a scene...or if she even cared about making a scene.
Cheyenne laughed as she gently nudged the sleeping Jackie with her elbow, barely causing the young sophomore to move, no less stir from her hypnotic slumber. “Wow, she’s really out…” she said, more to herself than anyone else. Laura, however, heard her response as clear as day.
“Yes she is.” Laura replied with a smile as Cheyenne looked up at the curly haired blonde in front of her. “And in a minute…you will be, too!”
To be continued…
