***CLASSIC MOVIE POLL WINNER*** DR. STRANGELOVE Full Watch Along

I like this movie a lot. Though my favorite Kubrick movie is the very non-comedic war movie Paths of Glory.

My opinion is this is Peter Sellers second best performance, after Being There.

LOLOLOL....I was actually wondering if that was an accident (or not) 😂😂😂

One of my favourite parts is when Turgidson falls over, rolls on the floor, gets up and finishes his line. That wasn't in the script, he just tripped, and Kubrick kept it in because he thought it was so funny :)

That was fun - enjoyed watching it with you :) You're completely right - it's very much a comedy, and a funny one. Just, you know, about a terrifying subject. I believe Peter Sellers had already created the character of Inspector Clouseau in the first Pink Panther movie (also a fun watch) before starring in this one. As for Dr Strangelove himself, after World War II, both the US and the USSR scooped up as many German scientists and engineers as they could, and put them to work on their own weapons programs (and later, the race to the moon). Some of them were just technocrats, but some were hardcore Nazis, and the government didn't much care which were which.

"Gentlemen! Gentlemen! You can't fight in here, this is the War Room!" Absolutely my favorite cinematic line of all time! So Dr. Strangelove's arm is an absurd tribute to Rotwang from the silent classic "Metropolis" with his black-gloved hand. Your notion of creating the Master Race at the end is something I had never considered. Released the same year is a film called "Failsafe," directed by Sydney Lumet and starring an incredible cast headed by Henry Fonda. It is nearly a parallel film to "Strangelove" but as dark as this film is funny. It will gut punch you at the end—truly tragic. that these two films existed at the same time was a coincidence, though many have speculated one ripped off the other. But both films are nothing short of classics. As for what Kubrick was trying to say? Kubrick was not much of a message guy. More than anything he was going for a laugh, more than likely. But it's something to investigate. I had never considered that, probably because I have seen it so many times over the decades. Originally the film ended with, of all things, a pie fight in the War Room. Kubrick loved the cheap laugh! No wonder he adored "The Jerk" so much! When you DO rewatch this film, keep an eye out for peter Bull (the Russian ambassador) struggling (and failing) to keep a straight face during Seller's final wheelchair contortions as Strangelove. Priceless stuff! Also, when you finally get to watching "Dark Star" one day, note that, as it pays homage to "2001" it also pays homage to this film as well. Glad you enjoyed this one! It was fun to rewatch with you in attendance!

This'll be interesting. I first saw this back when the Cold War was still going, and now I'm curious to see how it plays for someone just now seeing it in this very different era. Hope you enjoy it!
