[Early Access] What's Actually Inside This PATA SSD From Amazon?

Hello Patreon friends! I spent way too much on a sketchy IDE SSD from Amazon. Is it really what it claims to be? And how does it compare to other SSD solutions for old IDE machines?

That's definitely going to be why dosdude1's drive outperforms the kingspec one. More NAND chips means the controller can spread the load and take advantage of parallel operations.

I wonder if the difference between the dosdude card and the king spec card isn’t down to the fact that dosdudes card has 4 64gb nand chips vs kingspec only using 1 same issue that 128 vs 256 of the same drive the 256 will usually outperform the 128 due to load balancing on the nand chips

Sean, if you use a Sonnet Tempo ATA-133 PCI card with the little red Startech attached to an SSD it'll be the fastest thing you can use in the MDD. The Sonnet card is the key with its bump from the Power Mac's built-in ATA-100. The Sonnet Tempo Trio offers the same ATA-133 plus FW & USB, but those are rare cards indeed. Both are bootable in OS 9 and X.
