I know that Lupin said that you need a happy memory to conjure a Patronus, but what if that's a misconception and what you actually need is concentrating on a person you love? Harry fails many times while focusing on happy memories, never when he thinks of a loved person; Hermione always follows instructions (like in Slughorn's potions class) and with the instruction of focusing on a happy memory she often fails too. The Stone provides shelter from Dementors and brings back loved ones, not happy memories. Harry believed what Lupin said and disagreed with Snape (possibly more expert than Lupin as far as DaDA is concerned) on how to fight Dementors, but what if Snape was right? The times people managed to produce a Patronus thinking of a happy memory it might have been because loved ones are most often present in our happy memories!
