NOTE : The sketches in this post feature in the March Idea Development video for $5 patrons and up, which include commentary on my thought process and decision making when designing this new piece.
Back in 2019, I created this drawing as part of my Inktober series, and the concept has been one of the many that kept floating in my brain waiting for me to want to pick it up again one day. And so here we are!

I picked it up again in February of 2022 (below), exploring having jewels on the crown instead of eyes.

I then left it to stew again for about a year, and bookmarked it to add to my ever-growing list of concepts I can draw inspiration from when I am looking to start something new.
And so, here we are, February 2023!

I starting working on this idea again, with some daily doodles first and then in Procreate.
The concept evolved quite significantly, so much so that I think it has turned into something quite different from the original. I will probably go back to that initial Inktober drawing idea at some point and try to develop it in a way that feels closer to the source idea, but for now, I really like the new piece that came from it too.

I did some rough photobashing [above] (digitally collating photos to achieve a basic sketch) to get an idea of what I wanted to go for, and then did a value sketch [below] once I had all my elements in place.

As you can see, the concept has changed a lot, but I am genuinely happy with the direction it took.
It was meant as a much less complex painting, and has now turned into something that would take me a lot longer to complete, which isn't....uncharacteristic of me. XD
We'll see where this goes and if I do end up painting it!
In the meantime, I would love to know what you think, as well as how you all are :)
Take good care of yourselves,
Speak soon,
