The Forest - Mini Procreate Timelapse
Added 2022-09-13 14:00:07 +0000 UTCWhile I did start painting this piece already, there are a few things I still need to iron out before I jump into the more in-depth aspects of the painting.
Namely, the colour scheme and the lighting.
I could decide to be spontaneous, and figure it out as I go, but this often doesn't pan out and generally heightens my stress, so it is best that I try to make decisions before I jump into the meat of it.
Working digitally is a perfect way to do this, so I took a picture of the piece so far with my iPad and did some very rough, very messy iterating in Procreate, which you can see in the video above.
One of the lighting schemes I have always liked the idea of for this piece is having rays of sunshine streaming through the trunks and hitting the face of the character, either directly, or in a dappled light effect.
This would be a challenging thing to achieve, and does require some planning, but I think it could be quite effective.
I might need to practice the effect with some studies first, but it is likely that that will be the direction I take with this.
I have also stepped away from the heavier, graphic-like look I was thinking of giving the steam coming from the mug. If I am going to go the sun rays direction, I would prefer the steam take a more background role, and become more ethereal and light.
I am keen to take my time with this little piece, as I have been working on it for a long time now and have failed at it twice, so I want to be more methodical and intentional with this version.
