WHITE FLOWERS - Jan/Feb Process Video

Hi lovely peeps,

As promised, here is the timelapse video of the two little acrylic paintings I showed you in my previous post!

It comes with a voiceover, during which I talk a little about the challenge of trying a new technique and what I feel I learned about my style and my process.

Enjoy! <3

Absolutely beautiful ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’ xxx

Oh it's great hearing you talk about this, I've recently been having similar realisations that I might admire how someone else works, doesn't mean I'll enjoy working that way myself. But like you say, sometimes you don't realise that until you try it yourself. I've actually not worked much with acrylics since my school days, but I've been spending much of the last year learning how to paint with watermixable oils, and it's taken me that long just to discover some of the range of possibilities with this medium and still not pinned down one single way to use them. Actually feeling at the moment that it depends more on the subject matter and mood of the particular piece that matters most and kind of dictates how I'll paint. Especially with plein air painting as it's just a case of trying to get as much paint on the surface as quickly as possible! Haha! I do agree with you on the whole pre-mixing colours thing not being for me. I tried it a couple of times and I just got bored before even starting to paint the picture! I also enjoy the spontaneity the organic decision making that happens mixing as you go. So at least that's one thing I've figured out. Love both these paintings, but I resonate more with the second one more. I think because it feels closer to how I like to work too. I like my paintings to look like paintings, visible brushstrokes and interesting textures, no matter how realistic the impression of the overall image.

Oooo, excited already even though I'm commenting before watching the video. I think I have a black and white ink print of an early iteration of this idea which was called "Fortitude". Particularly memorable one for me because I bought it at the exhibition you were part of in that church crypt near Euston. I really enjoyed my one chance of seeing your work up close and in person. Well, now to watch the video! ;)
